Cold Air Kits

Have you guys ever heard of this brand CAI?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BOMZ-...spagenameZWDVW

Im not doing this for HP just for better fuel economy and dont want to spend alot of money. What types are you guys running and how much?

NewLoveI30 11-02-2005 06:09 PM

I don't trust the quality of a lot of stuff I find on ebay (although I dont have experience with ebay products). If you are just looking for fuel economy I'd just get a short-ram intake from Berk or cattman. They are not much more, but I can almost guarantee you that they will be of better, proven designs.

BTW, anything that fits the Max will fit our cars if you didn't know.

I looked up BOMZ products online and it is legit. I also found a CAI by STILLEN but it was $150 and Im not looking to spend that much.

Can't say I would buy anything from stealin either. They are overpriced and dont have proven gains on our cars. Although I might buy their battery tie because they look cool. haha

Do you have a link of the CAI you recommended?

$30 for CAI= Crap. And I would not buy anything from ebay.

Cattmans CAIs are higher than the STILLEN version and Berk doesnt have one for 99 models unless I overlooked it.

Any intake kit is just some metal tubing and a filter. The tubing doesn't matter that much, but aluminum is better than steel. The MOST important thing is the filter. I think you should get a cheapo intake kit and use the tubing, then get a good filter.

You're right! The tubing means jack really its the flow of the air filter itself. Who makes the best flowing filters for these cars?

I'd say Apex'i :doublethu

The tubing is actually one of the more important parts. You are not going to get huge gains from an intake anyway so you may as well maximize those gains with well designed kit.

The tubing should actually be tuned to a certain length for gains in a particular part of the power band. There is also a wave created by the negative pressure when the intake valves open. This travels to the end of the intake track and then back. If the intake is tuned to the correct length this wave will arrive just as the valves are opening back up and push in just a little bit more air.

You may think this is a bit overkill for your application, but I'm just trying to explain the importance of the length and width of the intake tubing.

As far as suggestions... I am of the opinion that Cattman.com has some of the best performance products available for our cars. They are a little more expensive, but unlike stillen you are paying for quality build and proven gains. Check out their website and purchase what you think will best fit your needs and budget.

Also check out the Group buy section. I know Cattman was having some deals on intake stuff a little while back.

i have had a CosmoRacing intake, just replaced it with a Nismo intake for the 6th Gen. maxima's. i just bought it for the look, the only real noticable difference for me is the sound, you get a deeper growl with the CAI.

KC_I30T 11-04-2005 07:14 PM

Do you have any idea what the proven gains are with the nismo intake?

kingofsorrow 11-04-2005 07:29 PM

i have no clue what horsepower is gained from the Nismo intake.
