Lights on Stereo don't work!!

Im posting this question on here for a friend of mine, who just recently bought a 2001 Infiniti I30. Most everything is great about the car, except one little annoyance, the lights on the stereo don't light up when they should. The only thing that lights up is the backlight for the display. If the dimmer switch is fiddled with, the backlight for the display will flicker. Any Ideas on what's causing this?

(I love the I30, its Fast! (well, compared to my second gen max) It outran a mustang! Not too sure how quick it is compared to my J30)

Not sure if this is your problem but when my display on my Bose would go on and off it was the resistor. Moisture had collected and caused rust on one of the resistors, very slight rust, and I sanded it off and problem was fixed. You have to take the radio apart to do this. I don't think the 2001 has a how to to take it apart though, so your on your own I think.

Hmm.. that sounds like a pain. But im into electronics, so that should be no problem... but just getting the deck out of the dash looks like a challenge.

fyi,
i just pulled stereo out of my 2000 i30. pull out the top a/c vents above stereo. pry up the trim around the gear shift(the whole thing should slide out and that includes the pocket). there are 2 screws on top and 2 on the bottom.

WOW! Thats a ton easier than my second Gen Max, and my J30. Once the radio is out, I will check for any bad resistors. Thats probably the cause, cause the dimmer will only control it for a few fractions of a second, then the display is back to full brightness.

Does ANYONE know why the light on my clock (analog - center of dash) won't light up at night? I saw another one with a light and didn't know mine was supposed to!! Please help. Anyone know cheap place to get an I35/G35 grille? Last ?, anyone took off the I30 badge on the rear decklid? What tools do you use? Thanks so much.

Trying to add a subwoofer to your stock bose system? or adding amps?
I have to sing the absolute praises of the JL Audio CL441DSP. Known as the CleanSweep this is an absolute must for those that want to or have to keep their stock BOSE system. It is a digital signal processor that basically removes the crappy factory equalization and lets you control the level with a knob. It has a calibration mode that analyzes the signal and adjusts itself accordingly. I have the stock Bose HU, amp, and highs. I added a Kicker ZX400.1 sub amp to a Infinity DVC 12" and it ROCKS (THUMPS) and sounds good with all music (except country, how would I know?). If you can afford it this is the only way to go. Send that PAC line level converter back and get a JL Audio CleanSweep.

If you want to order where I ordered from reply or email (bigboiajayi@yahoo) and I will send you the link the company is in PA. The cheapest I found this at retail stores was 399.00 on the Internet 349.99 and from MedTronics 299.99 and only 10 dollars shipping. You will NOT find it cheaper than 299.99 unless on ebaY!

The 'Dirty 30' - I have to post this message more than once. This unit is heaven sent, seriously. Does anyone know of something similar or is this the only unit.

you're posting this everywhere, but why? anybody that is using a stock hu and presumably stock speakers, doesn't really care about sound quality.
