Power Antenna

Today I noticed that my power antenna was having trouble going up/down. I could hear it making a noise as if it were trying to push itself up but it would only move a little and then stop. And now it is fully extended and tries to lower itself but won't. I tried putting some oil on it to see if that would make a difference but it didn't. Any suggestions?

Actually at least 9 times out of 10 the motor is fine and you just need to replace the mast. I did it on my old 97 I30 a few years ago and it wasn't too difficult. If you hear the antenna motor running as if it's trying to push the antenna up or down then the motor should be fine. I bought my mast on ebay and it came with instructions, it was quite a few years ago though so I don't remember what I paid.

The problem is that sometimes that antenna will absolutely not come out. Maybe he will get lucky.

A half @ssed way to fix this would be to have the antenna all the way down and then undo the electrical connector to it. Radio reception will be uneffected as there is an antenna built into the rear window (note: A33 got rid of the metal antenna mast altogeter).

I bought the antenna from the link and it came today. I tries to install it using the instructions but it says to remove the nut holding the old antenna in. Is this referring to the silver ring which is attached to the black part that is directly on the car? I tried to wedge a screw driver in between the silver piece and the black piece but it only started to bend it so then I tried just pulling the antenna out and it came out but I think the sleeve thing is still stuck in the car. HELP! I think I screwed up....

theres a nut on the inside of the fender panel behind your panels that hide all the bare metal. the nut would be in there. Good luck. Sorry I'm not much help. It's midnight and my visualization skills suck right now.
