Can anyone give me a quick tutorial on how to post the pic? It asks for a URL and I'm not that computer savvy. I'm used to "Browse" and click.

MY DD DIY

As I mentioned earlier. Took the faceplate off and filled in all the holes with Dynatron Dyna Weld 660 Epoxy Flexible Repair Kit 12 Oz... Bought it on Ebay from AutoPainterSupply (seller's Ebay name). $22 plus shipping.

Once it dried, I sanded it down and then measured the opening for the stereo. I rushed it and used just a dremel too and a chair to cut it out. Like I said, I rushed it so it didn't come out perfect. The opening on the sides and the bottom are a little too big and not perfectly straight. This is probably the one thing that you need to take the most time with. You can find step by step instructions on repainting your dash on line, btw. I made the error of taking the other two pieces and repainting all 3 the same color. Infiniti doesn't offer a paint to match that smoke grey metallic color.

After getting all the sanding and priming done, I wasn't happy with the results so I took it to an auto body shop and had them repaint it. I had asked for a dark grey but the guy working on it said he found the "right gray" (Infiniti says the interior paint color spec is "gray" - not very helpful).

Ended up getting the parts back as a silver/gray color, as you can see. I considered asking him to repaint it a darker gray but then decided that the silver/grey added a nice touch right in the middle. Granted, the wood grain clashes with it a bit.

Overall, I'm pretty happy. I have somf foan strips that I will line the opening with to give it a cleaner look.

All together, I spent 22 bucks for the epoxy and about 15 hours of labor total - only because I should have tried to paint it. The auto body shop owner owed me a favor so he repainted my dash parts for free.

If you have any questions just ask. If you want to keep your stock vents, I'd recommend trying this out. If you're not happy, you can always get it from SYCefiro. I may still do so, but I'll probably wait now that I have this in there.

Kenwood stereos with steering wheel controls

BTW, for those installing Kenwood Stereos with the PAC SWI-JACK steering control remote - I've found several sources on line stating that you lose your Trip Computer controls. Not the case for mine. I have all the same controls that I did before. Well, 99%. I think that is mainly due to the stereo itself. I can toggle through all my Trip Computer readouts and reset them.

Maybe it was because I fed the resistors straight into the harness openings instead of soldering them to the respective wires.

There is a delay but you get used to it pretty quickly.

^thats beautiful...lol I like the paint scheme and while its not 100% fitment wise its damn near to it. And for the price you paid...I do it in a heartbeat.
The silver definitely matches with the black interior, I have that willow tan so I'd have to plan out what colors to go with..

+1, If I had the patience and wasn't lazy id do this. Seeing those vents =

Got the same problem. Im talking to my install shop now trying to come up with a solution. They want me to buy another peice so they can get 'creative' & not worry about damaging thr original.

Rtrud, what model is that 8120, 7120, or 712? & where'd you get it from?

WOW,I never thought about using epoxy to fill the entire blank until i saw ur post. Not sure what epoxy you used, is it high viscosity or low viscosity(like water after you mix it)? coz the one i am using in my lab is low viscosity, like water after mixing, so I dont know what i should put to maintain the epoxy in the holes.
Oh, how did you cut the epoxy? coz the hardness is reallllly hight after its cured....

BTW, epoxy is highly toxic after mixing, so if anyone wanna try this way, you need to wear mask, goggles and gloves. most epoxy curing time is about 7 days, after you mixing.

Sshocker... you can't buy another piece. I tried calling Nissan/Infiniti and they only sell the stereo as one unit. Unless you buy another used stock stereo, it's a no-go. I'm a complete novice and I did an allright job. Professionals should be able to make it look sharp.

The Epoxy I used is a 3M product. Dynatron Epoxy Weld... It's a set of tubes, one green striped, one black striped. In my previous post, you can get the full description - if you paste it on Ebay, you'll find it. You mix it and have about 6 minutes to use it once mixed. It hardens in about 20 minutes. After 30 minutes, you can start sanding it. I waited about an hour. It gets pretty warm. It is toxic so make sure you do it outdoors, it puts out a pretty noxious odor. I only mixed small amounts each time. One set of 12 oz bottles was more than enough for me to do the job.

Kenwood DNX8120

It's a DNX8120. Got it from a place in Colorado Springs called Megacar Stereo. It's an online store for a car audio place, DriveIn Auto Sound, I think. Try these numbers - 719-573-5847 x222 (ask for Tom or Scott). Or 719-634-0828 (Ask for Troy). It sounds like they just started their online store recently.

Originally got the DDX812 and the KNA-G510 and swapped it for the 8120. I was worried about space to put both. However, you can do either one. There is plenty of room underneath the center console piece (where the Nav screen goes for those that have that option). If you don't have Nav, there is just a cavity under there... Plenty of room if you want to go with the DDX812 adn KNA-G510. I plan on using as a place to mount a digital TV tuner once it comes out for the eXcelon series.

Installation was pretty easy. Plan on having a power line noise filter. It's picking up the alternator noise which is noticeable at startup and low volumes. Crutchfield has one for about $15.

Rtrud, thanks for the heads up. I wanted the 712 or 7120. Got nervous with the online sites, so I ended up getting the 8120 from Crutchfield. Also ordered the DD kit from SY. Assuming everything gets here by the end of next week, hopefully I'll have pics soon. You keep your steering wheel controls? I'm holding out on the tuner as well. Also thinking about adding the GTM-12 for traffic updates too.

I think RTrud's method is pretty good as long as you get proper mix the epoxy.

hey guys does anyone know if the kit on the left comes in the color on the right cus i got a 2000 infiniti i 30 and my car has the oval clock as oppossed to the digital one but it is the color of the one on the right i cant find this peice nowhere can someone plese help me out wit this

Left is sycefiro, right is the Robert. I understand the kit pictured on the right is for an i30, but is that the reason why there is no vent control/wood at the bottom?

Anyone have any idea which kit that is, and how it sits so flush? Thanks in advance.[/quote]

does anyone know if the double din kit fits perfect in a 2000 i30 or does it have to be custom for a 6.5 double din dvd player

Is there still a way of getting the dash kits made? Or does anyone know where to get one? I'm in desperate need of one.

Double Din kit

E-mail SyCefiro (sycefiro@yahoo.com) and if he responds, he may be able to sell you one... Or you can get an installation shop to fabricate one for you. If you have a little time on your hands, you can take my route and fabricate one from the stock stereo faceplate. http://forums.maxima.org/members/rtr...14-i35-dd.html

Got mine about a month ago. Radio is in & I took some pics, but need more. The screen pics I have are 'adult' in nature.

My only concerns are that the head unit sticks out more than Id like & if the head unit is ever stolen, what do I do then, when the kits are so scarce?

looks Identical in style to the first one (lighter wood) posted above by lilnick, but it is in the color of the second one in his post......

....turns out the color was a spot on match to the rest of the interior. I'm just used to the Birdseye maple from my car I guess.

blurry pic but you get the idea. Installed the unit last night and the trim today....My girl has already made the unit light up pink to match her red and pink accented interior.

Follow up to my DIY DD bezel

On my previous post I used a plastic epoxy to fill the OEM radio bezel and then cut out the opening for a DD radio (DNX8120). The first picture is what I ended up with. All repainted a metallic silver that was a nice accent to the interior.

The opening wasn't perfect and the surface had some cracking. So I used balsa wood to make the opening a perfect square and then covered the whole thing in black leather. Here's the result. All it all it turned out allright. It cost about $8 in materials from Michaels for the leather and balsa wood and about 3 hours total between the balsa wood to get the opening perfectly square and putting on the leather. I used spray-on 3M glue. It was sticky and I rushed through it, but I used Goo-Gone to remove all the overspray glue.

Look's pretty nice, I think.

Here's links in case pics don't upload
