18" G35's, What size tire? 2k I30
Just picked up some wheels, needing tires and wanted to get some feedback from others who gave done 18's on an I.

A drop doesn't have too much to do with the difference between 225/45/18 and 245/40/18 bc I think they're a similar diameter. The g35 18s are an 8" rim so I personally think 245s look better than 225s and wider is better...
Then I switched to 225's and it's all good! |

i had 245/40/18 on my Gs when i had em, loved em...next set i got was 235/40/18..had a stretched look...i hated em, ended up trading for the wheels i have today

225-40-18 tires are the cheapest, but that size will throw off your speedo but only a little bit like 1-2 mph
235-40-18 is best if you don't want to throw off your speedometer 245 is too wide IMO |

225/50/17 = 25.9" diameter Options for G35 18": 225/45/18 = 26" 245/40/18 = 25.7" 235/45/18 = 26.3" There you have it OP, they are 18x8" rims so you can run anywhere from a 225-255 width. Its up to you want you want...its not about being cheap either. |

The answer COMPLETELY depends on what you want from the car. Are you gonna slam it so you tuck rubber? are you trying to track it at an auto X event? are you looking to negate the fact that the wheels are staggered? Are you worried about retaining accuracy in the Speedo? ALL these questions need to be answered before anyone can give you the "BEST" answer.....anyone that tells you different is either lying or doesn't know any better.
an example is my wifes I35 in my sig has 225/40/19 on a 9" wide front wheel but she tucks rubber and doesn't rub at all? but she doesn't auto-x and could care less about the speedo being dead on. Oh and she ran the anniversarry edition Z wheels for awhile on hers too but we stuck with the stock rubber sizes. |

Thanks for the responses. SOme additional info I dont plan on lowering the car, I dont want any rubbing issues, I want a clean look with some wall but no bloons, TIA, DC |
I went with 235/40/18. I'm pleased with the look at the performance. . .

225/40/18 Front I'm lowered 1.8F and 1.6R on Megan springs. When I get coilovers and max them out ill just get my rear fenders rolled or pulled |

I personally would run a 215/45 or maybe even a 215/50 depending on the actual stretch because you would fill the gap some more but not get a ballon effect on the sidewall and still have a nice turn in with the stiffer side wall from being stretched. I would not run the 245/40 up front as it will have a slight balloon and be sloppy compared to the rears. if you want a very stock feel and still a bigger look you may just want to run a 235/40 but they aren't cheap...hope this helps some. And here is the sickest calculator ever. ^ I agree with you. You can run anything you want, from 215 to 255.
Can you go with stretch? Sure. Does it run the risk of bending your rim over pot holes now. Yep. Can you go with a fat side wall? Sure. Do you wanna rub on the loose stock suspension, or if you're dropped? Up to you. With that said, my post was based on speedo accuracy/matching up the diameter/circumference CLOSEST to OEM tire specs (215/55/17, for i35 for example). Your link, as well as http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html can explain further why (to those that dont understand). On my second point, and as a general rule of thumb, 225/45's and 245/40's are comparatively cheaper to buy than 235/45. If you need more proof on that, price out on tire rack. I have rolled fenders, realigned my rear beam after a 1 finger gap drop all around (not pictured in sig), with a very stiff preload and dampening, still occasionally have a very slight rub on 245/40s on my track edition wheels. 18X8.5 +33. |
Well, just wanted to update; I ended up getting some lightly used michelin 245 40 18's for a deal. I love the way the wheels look on my I30; much more agressive IMHO and the steering feels much stiffer.

Looks good. A moderate drop would set it off. You wouldnt rub either. Noticed that you didnt wanna drop because of rubbing issues....

Yeah, bought it like that from the original owner, old Judge from DFW area, all wor done at Sewell Dealership. I guess I was willing to deal with it for a low miles clean car; Plus I love black on black. Its not a decal, its some sort of light paint that would need to be wetsanded and buffed out.
