Ignition Coils & Fuel System Issues
I've been absent from these forums for a while, but I've recently been having a few issues with my 01 I30. I had the dealership run a full diagnostic and they were happy to provide a laundry list of things that needed fixed...most of which I completely agree with.
I'm getting P0305, P0300 & P0420 codes. I've got over 120K miles on it, so I'm going to go ahead and replace all spark plugs and coil #5. The dealership highly recommended that they perform a "Fuel System Cleanup" which involves shooting all kinds of unknown chemicals through my intake and fuel system to clean out injectors and various engine parts. Has anyone ever done this? Is it worth it? I'm not opposed to paying a bit to make sure everything is done right. I'd like to keep this car running really well for a long time. Thoughts? |

That code indicates the Bank 1 catalyst is below efficiency and needs to be replaced. It will not hurt to drive it that way if the SES light doesn't bother you though. |
Thanks for the reply. You're probably right about the fuel system cleanup. I may just try some Seafoam and see how she runs.
I replaced all the plugs tonight with NGK Platinum's and replaced coil #5. That was a lot easier than I was expecting. The car starts up perfect, but it still "jutters" at idle a bit. What about replacing the bank 1 O2 sensor? |

My 03 was just having pinging issues on a light load... Seafoamed and the power is restored with the pings gone.. Better MPG readings after as well.

Since replacing the #5 coil and all spark plugs, she's been running pretty good. I don't know if its related, but it seems to start perfect when its not cold outside. I'm pretty sure I'm going to pass on the dealership's fuel treatment. Instead, I'm going to run some Seafoam through the fuel and see how that goes. I've had great luck with it in the past.

Did you use Seafoam in the crankcase or fuel? I just bought a bottle and was planning to use it in the fuel.
