HID Headlight Life

HID Headlight Life
Some time ago I read in a forum that HID headlights will grow dimmer over time, and should be replaced. I have never replaced a bulb until it expired, but have noticed the headlamps on my 2004 I-35 don't seem to be as bright as they were. Anyone have any experience with this? The bulbs seem pretty pricey, so not something I want to do unless I am really gaining light.

Eventually they will fail, it's best to replace both at the same time. I guess you'd take off the covers inside the wheel arch to get at them, like on the Altima. (jack up car and remove wheel first) - I see Autozone lists them at something like USD100! You should be able to find them on EBay for about $10 or so.

My friend has used a lot of eBay bulbs and they have failed prematurely or actually changed color from use. I like the DDM tuning bulbs I have and a lot of people online seem to have had good experience with them too. When you order any (I believe you need D2R, but I'd check to make sure, like in the "How To: HID replacement" thread floating around), just make sure to find as close to 4300k if you want to keep the stock bulb spec. Or you can get a different color temperature, but you will want to stay in the 4300-6000k range at a max. Above that and the color of the light isn't as illuminating, and lower is really yellow and more suitable for fog lights, and I'm not sure on legality of 3000k low beams. I have 5000k which is essentially a pure white, and 6000k adds a little blue hue.
