Map light bulb replacement

The map light bulb on my car recently gave out after at least 8 years of service.

My question is: what bulb do I use for replacement? Autozone has a bulb that is the same size and shape (Sylvania 1895), but according to the package, it's rated at 14 volts and 5.8 watts (I think, I might have the wattage incorrect). The other two auto parts stores I looked at, Advance and O'Reilly's, didn't have anything that matched what I pulled out. I highly doubt this is a dealer-only part, but it's very strange that I wasn't able to find an exact replacement at a parts store.

The map light is a special, dealer only part. It is a 10 watt lamp that cannot be found in your local auto parts stores.

The Infiniti/Nissan part number is 26232-F1100.

Be advised that the socket is reverse polarity of every other lamp socket in the car. This means that the side of the socket is 12 volts, not ground. Many people will blow the fuse using a screwdriver when trying to get the lamp out.

You could also consider putting in a LED for more brightness.

D'oh!

How much for the OE bulb, and what LEDs will fit?

The MSRP is $2.35 at either Nissan or Infiniti. Some dealers do discount so maybe call some and see. The lamp is $1.75 on-line but the shipping charge will kill you.

A LED will be more expensive. You need to get one that uses the BA9s base. But the socket is reverse polarity so many LEDs won't work unless you re-wire the socket. There is a brand of LED called Superbright (superbrightleds.com) and they make MOST of their lamps so that the polarity doesn't matter.

Here is one you could consider:
https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...9-led-tower/9/

Then there is vleds.com. Their LED lamps are are polarity sensitive and wouldn't work in the map light socket without re-wiring it. But they have "kit" type lamps where you buy a base adapter and a lamp. Polarity is not an issue with these, but mounting the pieces can be.

Here is a link:

I used VLED bulbs in mine. The polarity did throw me off. But if you want to rewire it, it's not difficult. My dad helped and I believe all we did was pull out the panel for the sunroof controls and map light (just get a small plastic pry bar like from Harbor Freight, push in from the rear of the car, and wedge it out), cut the two exposed wires, switch which ones they were connected to, the solder them. Never had an issue since.

My dad found a 12 volt GE 1895 2-pack at Ace Hardware. Just tried one of them, it worked fine.

Convert it to led. I did all my interior bulb to led only cost like 20 bucks but i splurged on my dome light. It is so bright in there now!
