Installed Eibach's and Z31 16's -Pics- 56k death!

After trying to decide what springs I wanted to get for my car I ended up with a year-old set of Eibach's and Tokico Blues for $140 shipped, and I must say I'm very happy with the ride so far, not near as bad as I had imagined with that setup.
I also decided to try something that I'd never seen before. I'm doing some work to my Z and had the wheels off anyway and I just wondered how it would...well take a look at the before and after pics:

After Eibach's:

Now after the Eibach's and Z31 wheels:

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../Maxima069.jpg

They come right out to the edges on the rear, the front's almost stick out but still look great:

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../Maxima062.jpg
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2.../Maxima070.jpg

I'm very happy with the performance and drop that the Eibach's gave, I think the drop is more than advertised though, which is fine by me.
I'm still trying to decide whether or not to keep the Z wheels on. The aren't flashy but they look decent (need to be cleaned) and come right out to the edge of the wheel wells because of the low offset. They also have ALOT more grip than the 215/60/15's, and handle much better w/ the extra rubber from the 225/50/16's.
Total cost of this project was only $140 because of the really good deal on the springs and struts, and the rims and tires...well they aren't being used on the Z in the winter anyway ;)

matty 11-20-2005 11:54 AM

To me, they look too much like 3rd gen wheels...I would take them off but to each his own..its your car so do what you like :)

Ive had my Eibachs on for about 2 years now and I love them..not really SLAMMED but noticable...I was on sprints before this and they're TOO low

very nice not too often do i see other maximas the same color as mine. all i really want to do is drop it with the rims i have now

Nissan 6 11-20-2005 12:13 PM

nice drop but the z31 wheels look horrible

A33 VQ30DEK 11-20-2005 12:20 PM

those wheels are FUGLY!

jwmaxse 11-20-2005 12:23 PM

matty-Yeah the wheels do look alot like 3rd gen rims.

Nissan 6-Yeah they aren't something I'd pay for.

I would take them off but I think they look better than the 15" sawblades. What makes them look alot better is the offset, they're right at the edges, almost perfect, and it's hard to appreciate that when you can't see it in person. I'm almost tempted to just leave them on from now on because I'm really going for a sleeper look, and these definitely aren't flashy.

99SEL4ME 11-20-2005 12:25 PM

Yeah, the drop looks nice, but the Z wheels don't look on the 4th Gen Maxima. It looks like that the tread on those Z wheels would not handle well in the white stuff. And you guys get the white stuff. I think if anything, your sawblades look better. Like stated above^^^, it's your car, do what YOU like. :)

Wow, now you guys are starting to make me feel bad :grinno:

Seriously though, thanks for the input. I know they don't look great, but I still think they look a little better than the maxima sawblades, and without a doubt they do handle better. I'll probably keep them on for a while and enjoy the better handling until the snow starts flying.

njmaxseltd 11-20-2005 01:32 PM

The car looks nice and classy with that drop and those wheels.

Capital15 11-20-2005 01:36 PM

Me no likey the wheels...nice drop though.

CreativeDesignz 11-20-2005 01:54 PM

drop is hot but the wheels....GROSSSSSSSS. too much old school with the newer school. i dont think Z wheels belong on any max except 350z wheels, maybe. those just need to go asap. paint ur other rims gunmetal and call it a day.

Jar 11-20-2005 02:07 PM

the offset looks real nice but my opinion the sawblades look better, if you end up buying new rims then go with the z's offset though :)

Hey man, are those the Enkei ZR-1's? I have those on my Maxima in 18x8. I thought I was the only one with those on a Max, I'm not original anymore. Hehe. They look nice on the sterling mist. Mine is the Arctic white pearl.

OOmaxSE 11-20-2005 02:22 PM

"i just threw up... in my mouth"

RockfordMax 11-20-2005 02:53 PM

happyricefob 11-20-2005 02:58 PM

looks stock :gotme:

PAREDLINE 11-20-2005 03:14 PM

Try the 90-95 Z rims. They'll look much better on your car

The only reason I have these wheels on my car is because they were just lying around the garage, I definitely wouldn't have paid for something like this. The Z32 rims are okay but I don't think I would drop the money on something like that.

After looking at these wheels on my car a few more times I think they almost look like giant hubcaps, but they handle soooo much better than the other ones, alot more grip, it will be hard to part with these no matter how ugly they are :hide:

Edit: Oh yeah, thanks for the compliment njmaxseltd :woot2:

Funny stuff. If you know where I can get them for free I try the 5th gen wheels out :)

MidwestMaX1 11-20-2005 04:36 PM

Nice. Now get a pink paint job to top it off.

naplesmaxima aka Tommyali the scammer! 11-20-2005 05:52 PM

drop looks good but the rims are fugly

the_3d_man 11-20-2005 07:14 PM

lol... people's reactions to the wheels.
My friend has a 3rd gen with those wheels... well almost those wheels...
Maybe he used to have a 3rd gen and misses it...

96blackmaxSE 11-20-2005 07:21 PM

nice offset on the rear wheels but i say no...at least you gave it a shot tho...now go buy some nice 17 or 18 wheels w/ that rear offset

the Z wheels look like hubcaps, should of got the Z32 16"

MaDMvD 11-21-2005 05:33 AM

I personally think the sawblades look better, but those Z's don't look THAT bad... I would've done what CreativeDesignz said, paint the sawblades gunmetal. All that matters is you are happy with the Z wheels, so keep them on and ignore the negative comments - plus, the whole sleeper aspect is :ben:

tripleGmax 11-21-2005 07:18 AM

lol geez people he said they were free and most importantly he said he liked the offset of the rim. anyway the drop looks a lot better man. are you looking to aftermarket rims? keep up the good work.

buttonhook 11-21-2005 07:29 AM

Hey,
I will have a set of 97 se wheels and 215/55/16 tires for sell soon PM me for details.

jwmaxse 11-21-2005 07:59 AM

No I'm not really looking for rims right now, this was just kind of an experiment to see how they would look on a fourth gen. Like I said before, these rims are off my other car and they were sitting on the floor at the moment so I figured I'd try them out. I know 17's or 18's would look great on my car but I'm not ready to drop $$$ on rims and tires right now, I'm not really the kind of guy to spend alot of money on a car unless it's replacing wear items with a performance part. Thanks for the input though, and I hope I didn't make anyone too sick with the Z wheels ;)

ajcool2 11-21-2005 08:04 AM

I like the drop. Those wheels are perfect for a sleeper look. Nice clean shiny sawblades are little more flashy than those. So I say keep them on but they are still ugly.

MorpheusZero 11-21-2005 04:23 PM

Drop--great. Rims--fine. I like how they look, and for free they can't be beat. Overall your car looks that much more aggressive, but more importantly for me, it also looks OEM aggressive. I need a drop like that and some larger offset wheels... or I could always go with spacers...:tardsmash okay maybe not.

Nathan 11-23-2005 10:39 AM

Those wheels make the max look so dated...lol...But since they were free more power to you!

rteenie22 11-23-2005 07:01 PM

is the only difference between those z31 wheels and se maxima wheels the size???
i kno maxima is 15*6.5 and z is 16*_???

Tatanko 11-23-2005 07:43 PM

Am I the only one who noticed his b-pillars?

WTFis up with that, dude? :squint:

The simple answer is that the new wheels I'm running are about 1.25" wider on each side, so the total width of the track on my car is now about 2.5" wider, much better grip.

The difference is the size and offset. I'm not positive but I think the Maxima sawblades are 15"x6" or 15"x6.5" with an offset of 45. The Z wheels are 16"x7" and have an offset of 30. If you plug that into the offset calculator in the wheels and tires section of this forum you will find that if the Sawblades are 6" wide, considering the offset and everything else, the edge of the rim will be 1.10" further out to the edge of the body than before. If the sawblades are 6.5" wide then it still extends the rim out .83" than before. The tires are also wider on the Z wheels, I went from 215 series on the sawblades to 225 series on a wider wheel so the tires are much wider.

I bought like that, kind of retarded I know. My guess is that the previous owner removed the black tape on the front doors but didn't get to it on the back doors. Maybe some day I'll take 30 minutes and fix that :)

95 maxima se 11-29-2005 10:58 AM

nice drop!! looks alot better than stock.(4x4)

Nickel 11-29-2005 01:30 PM

are they both the same car? looks nice though with the alloyds

Yeah, same exact car, I figured I'd get the before and after pics. So which alloys did you like more?

I've been driving around for a while with these and I think they're here to stay for now. They fill up the wheel wells sooo much better and have much more grip.
