Wut?

KBCobra Nov 14, 2010 03:34 PM

Where are the pictures?

cwfalconfootbal Nov 14, 2010 03:35 PM

I will start with the car pretty much stock. I started the led conversion, wood grain trim and stereo the first day i got the car, so nothing was ever completely stock in pictures.

One of the first things I did was chrome gauge rings. I will do this in order.

Since I bought the car and it had stone chips and scrapes on the rear bumper, I decided to have those repainted.

it beats paying 300 for one headlight after an accident. and I like the way they look anyway.

KBCobra Nov 14, 2010 04:08 PM

What headlights are those?

cwfalconfootbal Nov 14, 2010 04:14 PM

ebay ones without projectors. I plan on putting projectors in but the ebay projectors have terrible light output. these arent THAT BAD although everyone says they are.

KBCobra Nov 14, 2010 04:15 PM

Do you have any pictures of the light output at night? I am buying new headlights in 2 weeks.

cwfalconfootbal Nov 14, 2010 04:19 PM

no...I can do that within the week. My camera doesnt do a good job of light pictures but my friend has an awsome camera.

roggeezy Nov 14, 2010 04:24 PM

The fitment on the ebay headlights look terrible.

KBCobra Nov 14, 2010 04:27 PM

I was reading this thread and they don't look so bad once you put some time and effort into em. I have a 5th gen and I hate the stock headlights.

I think its fixable. knew someone that got them to fit perfectly, never asked him tho. i gotta send the passengers back so I didnt bother with it yet

thanks for that...he got a good light output...deff plan on that once the replacement comes in

KBCobra Nov 14, 2010 04:35 PM

Sure thing. It's been bookmarked and once I stop procrastinating, I will do it as well.

HotshotVQ35 Nov 14, 2010 04:37 PM

i think the bumpers are different(00-01 vs 02-03) thats why they dont fit right

They don't fit right on the 02-03?

The listing says, "WILL NOT FIT WITH FACTORY HID AND SE 20th ANNIVERSARY EDITION"

jowo9 Nov 14, 2010 05:24 PM

Yeah... It's kinda funny how people mod their maximas without first researching on here. Those eBay projectors are a prime example.

Rhyno02 Nov 14, 2010 05:30 PM

Were there any modifications to get the G35 seats in and working?

KBCobra Nov 14, 2010 05:56 PM

Well, I have a 5th gen not a 5.5 so I should be good :D

Yes. the seat had to be fitted onto the maxima seat frames.

and people talking about the headlights: I knew about the fitment issue and that the light output wasnt great when I ordered these. After I got into an accident, I couldnt justify spending 300 on a brand new passenger's headlight only to open it up, paint the housing black and add the halos and still have them not match the driver's headlight because they look newer. I went with these cuz I wanted the halos and they dont make any for 02-03 anyway. there 150 for the set of headlights where the work is done for me or 300 for one headlight that would always look out of place.

With that being said, I still think I can get it to fit better.

Waxima Nov 14, 2010 07:08 PM

The headlights are awful, I do like everything else though.

I would have just done that if it was me. I don't think there would have been issues with one looking newer. Headlights really only show wear on the lenses and a quick 10-15 minute wet sand and polish of the older headlight lens would have taken care of that problem. And even if they did look a little different it still would be better than the eBay halos. They look like cheap plastic, have poor light output, and don't fit well.

Not trying to flame as I do like everything else you've done with the car, just saying. It would only have been a $150 difference plus a little elbow grease to get the headlights as they were as opposed to the eBay setup. I'm assuming you went the cheaper route because you rear-ended somebody and with your insurance deductible the repairs to the headlight were on you?

That suede headliner is a very unique mod. I doubt you're going to find another 5th genner who's done the same. Looks good.

KBCobra Nov 14, 2010 07:11 PM

It looks good either way. I'm looking at them right now on eBay and they're $163. There's two pairs (one a few bucks more$$) I just can't tell if they're the exact same or not. It's hard to tell lol

no...didnt rear end anyone. i hit a gaurd rail. My father put it under insurance as him hitting the gaurd rail so it didn't go against my record. he wanted a cheaper repair and keep the money. I would have liked to paint the whole front end to make it match lol but i guess its a project for another day.

it was purely because I do like the look of the headlights. fitment looks awful but found that out when I installed them. i really do believe theres a solution and the light output would be fixed with e55 or tsx projectors. the build quality seems good tho so I'm not sure where that came from...I heard ebay headlights got a little better quality recently tho...

cwfalconfootbal Nov 14, 2010 07:39 PM

And I don't think fitment is enough to say they look terrible.

black2000maxiSE Nov 15, 2010 08:43 AM

The headlight fitment needs work but its not unfixable for sure. Car looks great as always matt just needs some g35 19's or altima ser's

cwfalconfootbal Dec 14, 2010 01:20 PM

I tried the projector retrofit using directions from a stickied thread in the 5th gen section along with directions on how to aim headlights properly. I strongly recommend knowing how to aim these as mine were aimed into the sky the first time I tried.

The light woutput is great...tho it should be if there mercedes projectors lol. I feel like it still needs something.

I'm looking at shrouds because I think that will take attention off the metal cage you can still see in the headlights. I'm thinking of these:

your car looks 1108340958743109871531x's better with the stock wheels on it!

Tight Max a whole lot of things on the ride.:D

essential1 Dec 15, 2010 03:34 PM

G35 seats, suede headliner, trunk setup all on the stock wheels with the mild drop is A+ in my book.

But the RSX knob and suede shift boot really looks out of place in there. Especially next to the woodgrain IMO. You have an overall clean look going so far with the car, i think a black or brushed aluminum colored shifter console and black leather shift and ebrake boots will flow much better with what you got going so far.

I understand your reasoning for getting those ebay headlights. good job on the retrofit. I personally like the stock 02-03 lights better but under your circumstances, i'd probably do the same for the time being till I can afford the factory units again.

jeff5347 Dec 15, 2010 04:14 PM

even though you have stock rims i would look into spacers so the wheels do look so sunken in. Did it to my oem gle rims and makes a world of dif
