For an extra couple pounds you can pull those brake dust shields off. Mine were rotting pretty bad so I pulled them. Haven't noticed an increase in brake dust or any other problems since removal.

Will the 95-96 bumper supports fit 97-99 bumpers? If so I may grab a pair at the junkyard next time.

Looks good.

I've been thinking about a sunroof delete.

My buddy has a BMW that he found a kit for that makes it look flush.
I'm going to test fit it on mine just because.
I'll report if that turns up anything.

Make sure you wear shorts, sandals, a wife-beater, and get a hair cut on track day.
Do you have a link to the kit? Let me know how it turns out.

Lol the tracks out here require close toed shoes, long pants, and a short sleeve t at minimum.

I thought about that, but I like the idea of them protecting the backside of the rotor. My rear brakes don't really dust at all, but the dust my fronts leave is awful.

95 AL front support bolts right up.
95 AL rear support needs the steel pieces that are bolted to the chassis inside the trunk. My 97 steel support is spot welded to those brackets and the 95 AL support is bolted to those brackets. I found that out the hard way and have to make another jy run before I can install it.

If you don't mind posting a picture of the conplete rear bumper support before or as you install I would appreciate it. So you think I could swap for the 95-96 bumper supports and keep my current bumper covers? Can't believe the front support saved almost 20lbs that's awesome. I'm going to start my own members ride thread. ill post everything I've removed and how much it saved if I weighed it. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

Yeah I'll take a pic when I grab the bumper stays from the junkyard. Yeah I'm pretty sure you can retain the 97+bumpers, that was my plan with the rear anyways. You might need the 95-96 bumper foam or trim the foam you have now. The 19lbs was 14 for the support and 5 for the fogs. Go for it, I'd love to check it out.

I've been planning to make a thread but its time consuming. Next time I'm at the jy ill grab the supports and foam. My rear support is so rusted it would turn to dust if I got rear ended lol. I won't be taking my fogs off I like them too much.

AL bumper supports were a '95 only thing. I have a '96 with a production date of 9/95 and it had steelies on both sides.

The front bolts right on but the rear needs these four brackets to attach the rear plastic bumper to the aluminum beam. The brackets were available as of a couple years ago and got them from Nissan, they were not to expensive at the time. I also swiss cheesed those brackets and used aluminum hardware to be a weight weenie. This saved about a 1/4 of a pound.

Thanks for the info. Do you have a picture or part number of the brackets by chance?

Did you ever weigh your car?

I used the FAST software to find those brackets. You have to enter in a '95 Max and on the rear bumper those brackets are a part #.

Might have some pics on my old computer of the drilled brackets and the exact weight removed from them.

Last time it was corner balanced the car was 2990 pounds in race trim with full interior and a full tank of gas. I'm shooting for 2925-2950 next time around. This is a fully optioned SE, so it was a fatty to begin with.

Oh wait I think I know what you're talking about now, are they the 4 brackets on the underside of the support?

Yes. On the steel support they are part of the support, aluminum support those brackets have to be bolted on.

Was hoping for better times, but a PR is a PR.

This was the best 60' I pulled all day

Last time I was at this track is the OP. Since then they have redone the track and laid down new concrete, this was the 3rd day its open. In the past my 60' have been worse at this track than the other 2 tracks I've been to in AZ, unfortunately that issue still persists.

Wild Horsepass Motorsports Park (formerly Firebird International Raceway) in Chandler, AZ
Track Elevation: 1080ft
Density Altitude at time of my best run: 2130ft

Current setup:
+02 VQ35 w/3.0 timing, DE-K Injectors & FPR, return fuel setup
+Stock 5th gen intake w/ bomz cone filter
+PFTB
+NWP BOP
+NWP 5pc spacers
+Altima headers w/ 3" y pipe back
+eBay UDP

Race weight taken at the track: 3050lbs with driver and 1/4 tank of gas.

Finally went back to the junkyard, ended up grabbing an entire support since it was cheaper than the two brackets I needed.

I didn't get any pictures, but the 95 support does not extend as far away from the car as the 97 support does, leaving a gap between the bumper foam and the bumper support.

1997 steel rear bumper support with brackets 34lbs
1995 aluminum rear bumper support with brackets 14lbs

Which drops me 20lbs down to 2920.178lbs

Also spotted an unconventional ps cooler.

Did they only use aluminum on the 95's or did the 96's also recurve them?

After going through a few tanks of gas with a coroplast front undertray AND reinstalling cruise control (both of which were installed only a few days before a road trip, which is the 27mpg spike), I think its safe to say those two items are good for a solid 2mpg in mixed driving ~(75city/25hwy).

nice #s, i got coroplast on my rear diffuser, I am planning for the front,

what do you do for oil changes and checking for leaks and doing work and crap?? that was my biggest thing i saw being annoying with a front undertray

Thanks. They should be increasing even further now that I have finally fixed a majority of wiring issues I've had since October. (MAP, EVAP solenoid and pressure sensor, all o2 sensors)

Would you mind posting pictures of your rear diffuser? A few pages back, I have some pics of a cardboard one I threw together, but never got around to making in FRP or coroplast.

I'll post pics of the front when I have access to my memory card, but it does not extend past the wheel arches in the front. I have a fair amount of room in my engine bay so unless I was dropping my headers or doing something serious I don't think it will be in the way. Easily the most annoying thing with the front undertray is jacking up the car since the factory jack point is covered by the undertray. I also have a VQ30 lower oil pan on my VQ35, so the oil drains towards the passenger wheel.

here ya go

it functions w the stillen slots too. i have since had to cut the portion that went around the rear beam due to complications with being attached to moving suspension parts. but am determined to find a new way

by the way I just did both front O2 sensors and didn't notice anything substantial.

A majority of my trips are coming in at 27 mpg and a handful at 29, which is a step up from only a handful of trips at 27mpg as tracked on my SGII.

When I was under the car having a look around, I was thinking of pulling the diffuser up above the rear beam and affixing it to the body to reduce the chance of it trapping air and avoiding the movement from the rear suspension.

I have a set of 12 hole 2012 Maxima Injectors that I flow tested against a set of 4 hole 2000 Maxima injectors.

Until I can get my hands on a set of FBJC101's, I can only speculate that the 2012 Injectors flow the same amount as the 101's. But they do without a doubt flow less than the FBJC100's.

Installed the injectors, swapped out the clips and made a cleaner, lighter throttle cable bracket today.

FBJC100 0.098lb each
Denso CA5 ('12 max) 0.070lb each

DEK Injector clips (bulky push down type) 0.149lb for a set of 6
2012 Maxima CA5 Injector clips (simple press to release clips seen on older 3.5s as well) 0.072lb for set of 6

Total weight shaved today, a whopping 0.242lb!

Dat cruise control doh'

Long term review.

Looking back, is this 3.5 swap in simple stockish form everything it's cooked up to be? I'm more interested in what are you thoughts on it, after having a heavily modded 3.0 to going to a nearly stock 3.5 motor, what are your thoughts?

I'm really thinking of just putting a 3.0 timed 3.5 and tuning it w/ nistune and calling it a day at this point in time, I just don't have the motivation to build something I won't be able to sell (Since the corn motor wasn't my ideal plan).
