5 spd. shift points for fuel economy?

Hey, I've seen several posts about shift points for performance, but haven't seen one about where to shift for best fuel economy. I'm guessing around 2k-3k rpms, but have only driven stick for the last month, so am still adding to my knowledge base. If anyone feels like posting the best rpms to shift at, for each gear, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

If I'm going slow, I shift before 3500 in first and 3000 after that.

Don't drive over 60-65mph. Other than that use as little throttle as possible and you will get good mpg.

i usually shift around 2k on every gear driving easy on the car. i usually end up in 5th gear by 30-35mph. my last tank was 27.5mpg (with the help of my test pipe and exhaust).

Wow, 5th gear at 30mph?

Methinks that's pretty ultra-conservative, but at 27.5mpg...
I never even engaged 5th gear at 30-35mph in my old non-vtec Integra

I usually just try to shift at 3k, and into 4th at 40. I rarely see 5th myself.

If I put my car in 5th gear at 30 mph it makes my engine lug.

5th gear at 35mph with easy throttle. that's why we drive V6s and not 4 cylinders lol. of course you won't get breathtaking acceleration that way.

Hell, 5th at 30-35 thats crazy...I feel bad when my car is in 5th at 40...Just make sure you stay about 1500rpms's...In an old post I remember to avoid engine/trans. damage for oil to pump to the top of the engine >>>> Stay Above 1500RPMS

if you look at your owners manual it says when you should shift for fuel economy.

If i remember it goes like this:

1st-2nd 13mph
2nd-3rd 16mph
3rd-4th 27mph
4th-5th 36mph

my manual is in the car so might be off by a few miles, but generaly if you shift at these speeds the tach is at 1800 RPM.

I've had my 5spd for about 3 or 4 weeks now.

How about shifting for racing?
I always end up chirping from shifting into second gear...is that good or bad? am i doing something wrong?

I also chirp the 1-2 shift if I'm flooring it. It's pretty normal, and its nothing good, but I also doubt its really doing anything bad, just wearing out your clutch and tires faster.

I forget the optimal shift points, I think its like around 6200 rpm for racing. Do a search.

Good for a low time or good for the transmission?

As far as fuel economy I shift between 2500-2800 rpm. As far as racing:

1-2: 6500
2-3: 6000
3-4: 5700

I have had my best times with these shiftpoints.

I never see 5th in town. One of the 1st things I noticed with my Maxima was that lack of desire to ever get into 5th gear. When I had a 90 integra 5sp I would always shift in to 5th.
