Sentra SE-R Spec V tried to step to its big brother and got smacked down.
Sentra SE-R Spec V tried to step to its big brother and got smacked down.
Some kids (3 actually) in a new red Spec V decided they'd try to give the Max a run last night. Things didn't work out so well for them however hehe.
The first run was from about 35mph in 2nd gear. In 3 seconds time I'd put a car and a half on them. Like taking candy from a baby.
The 2nd run was from a roll at like 40, I was still in 3rd gear, they hit it and we were dead even, I was just messing around with them (the extra 2 passengers didn't help the guy either). That run was cut short by a cop up ahead...oops. We were even up to about 60mph.
Then later we caught a light, but it was in a downtown area late at night(25mph speed limit). I wasn't really looking for a race in this sort of area, but they took off and got a 1 car lead initially, so I decided what the heck, lets do it. I knew it would be over within 6 or 7 seconds anyways heh. By the top of 2nd gear their 1 car lead (with the passenger looking back and laughing at me even) had evaporated and I was 1.5-2 cars ahead of them. It was quite funny, I looked at the passenger the whole time as he looked at me, from me being 1 car back to when I passed them. His eyes got rather wide. I let off at the top of 2nd gear. They shifted to 3rd and went tearing off into the night, squealing their tires around a curve and such. I called Brian to tell him about it and went home.
Not sure if they thought their Spec V with and intake (heard it) was going to get an easy win or if they knew what was going to happen. But from their antics after the first race (they almost rearend the car in front of them as we were in traffic leaving a light) and their ricer flyby, I think they were surprised.

(Spanish eh?)The opposite would be RS-X Type S. Very very plain looking, but a real sports car. We look under it at the rear and wonder where the beam is?
Sentra SE-R Spec V versus RSX Type S
hmm
can we say in 2 very different classes.
and the best i've seen an RSX run at the track is 16.4
And i've also raced a Spec V at the track
and beat him by 3 car lengths
but it was his first time driving it at the track.
Civic Si is in the Sentra class, and the Sentra spanks it

I hope you mean the regular one...the type s is pretty quick like 15.0 - 15.5 ..but they can take an a$$ whooping too.
nealoc..good kill..they are quick..but not that quick..and NOT with 300 extra lbs in there.
should be an interesting car after a few mods

i wouldn';t call it a "real sports car" though, a real sports car imo should be either AWD or RWD .. not FWD..
not only that a real sports car wouldnt be ONLY in the high 14's stock.. and it's almost impossible to find someone that has actually gotten high 14's on a stock typeS and has the time slip.
a REAL sports car would be something like the camaro.. RWD and enough torque to shred the rear tires. 100% made for dragging
Just curious, but do you all get the impression that most lay people don't know the max has and is available in manual? When I tell people I drive a 5-spd max, almost everyone is kind of surprised... Most people equate maxima's with a sportier LOOKING camry...

Can't keep up with an auto Prelude? You got to be kidding me.
Maybe they were stock autos. Still though, I say he's full of it.
It's funny, I keep a kill list on my PC (MS Word) and there's not one NA 4 cylinder on it.
The fastest RSX-S I've seen ran a 15.6 sec ET or a few tenths slower than a Celica GTS or VTEC Tegs.
Just for the record, there are only a few cars still produced that are considered 'sports cars' in the historical sense. Believe or not, sports cars are cars like the MX5, S2000 and Z3. (The 300ZXTT, 3000GT VR4, Supra TT and RX7 are considered GT cars.)
Like it or not, the RSX and the Spec V are both economy cars. (For one thing, a sports car would NEVER be front wheel drive!!) Despite their impressive performance numbers, neither are true sports cars.

good kill!
specVs are good for low 15s. i think the best time so far is 15.1 stock over at freshalloy.com but nowhere near a modded 5spd.
but still very quick and very impressive, i'm sure a modded auto will have a pretty hard time with the specV

I am not goin to argue with any1, all im gonna say is that i was in my car and i know what happened, i never said i smoked him it was pretty damn close, but for all i know it could have been the driver of the sentra that wasnt too good. the driver does matter as u all know and if thats the case if some1 whos a expert stick driver was behind the wheel i probably would have lost.

Life is good when you can consider a RS-X to be an economy car. Heavy paper.
The Maxima is like getting the cashmere sweater with a red dot on it, ie below invoice!

Spec V is very representative of the Nissan philosophy--all show, no go. They should call it Sentra Nova! (Spanish eh?)

$19k, and a 4-banger that puts out 175hp and I believe 180ft/lbs torque. Show me an under $20k naturally-aspirated 4-banger with those output numbers alone (Granted, the output at the high end isn't quite what a Honda VTEC 4-banger is, but I'd rather have low-end than constantly having to downshift to hit a power range...and I used to be a honda fan). Add in the v-lsd and some decent stock suspension equipment, and you've got a fun-to-drive car. All looks? I don't see any style in that car at all, barely. It still looks like a Sentra for the most part, with a few minor cues.
Especially when you say the RSX-S is very plain looking. It has stock 5-spoke 17s I believe, just like the Spec V, not to mention a definitely noticable stock exhaust tip, and (trying to be) an aggressive front end. The only "plain" quality of the RSX-S look to me is how it appears somewhat narrow and tall in stance, not what you're used to seeing on a Honda. Give it some time, when all the kids have springs...
"Real sports cars" is REAL relative here. Personally I'm pretty disappointed with the RSX for the reason that it wandered outside of the integra/prelude spirit of "raw 4-cylinder sporty-but-cheap" car. I mean, leather seats, bose stereo, etc, standard? Not to mention the price tag, which around here comes out to $25-26k. Crap, even the base models sell above $20k here. Who wants to shovel out $26k for a car like that? With the Sentra at $19k, that's a supercharger with room to spare, etc.
I can see where I might kind of agree with you on some areas...but to say the Spec-V is flashy with no go, well...you get my point. But perhaps you prefer bose stereos, leather seats, better road dampening, auto-climate control, and good quality interior plastic in your "real sports cars"

Then post it on SHO and see what happens. hehe
