Tires are really brown...don't know what happened
Tires are really brown...don't know what happened
I have 18's with Kumho tires and my tires are really brown even after washing the tires and rims. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Is there any product that can make my tires look black?
thanks

Often it is the dressing at fault, not the tire.

J/K- Tire gels sometimes turn wheels brown. I use Black Magic now. 3 times a week.
Yeah, mine were very brown after a trip on a dirt road. I couldn't get the brown out so I bought a wire-bristle tire brush. After two washes they're back to normal. Oh, and I use No Touch on mine to make then shiny.

If you cake on the tire dressing every two weeks, your tires are going to turn brown. You need to clean the tires, just like you clean your rims.
Buy some wheel cleaner (something like this) and clean your tires:

Then use some tire dressing.
By the way, bleach is used in tire cleaners to brighten white wall tires, but they can turn the tires a dull gray.
Also,
silicone based tire dressing might have petroleum distilates as a cleaning agent, which can cause vinyl and rubber to crack. So maybe try and use a water based tire dressing.

I agree with stripping them down with some cleaner. You have to do that every now and then. Afterwards, the dressing goes on much better anyway.
Be sure to use a brush with the cleaner, and not just rely on the cleaner itself. I use Amazing Roll Off and it's great (see http://www.properautocare.com or http://store.yahoo.com/classic-motoring/ro-32.html).
