I just wanted to tell you that you are more than welcomed around here. You seem to be very sensible and do not flame or have a put down attitude. It is sometimes hard for people that are passionate about their cars to admit that there could be a car that's better or faster.

Just so you know, I know what the CE V6s can do. You won't hear me saying that I am faster.

Thanks. I never said that my car was better because honestly i dont think it is. I think both have their goods and bads and thats just how it is. Everything else is left to opinion. Nissan and Toyota both make good strong *** engines and the cars are so close that i dont even wanna argue about which will win cause the variables could be in eithers favor on a different day.

BTW i got an LE model. Tiem got the CE which i wish i had cause its lighter.

But come on guys, how stupid would it be for me to come here and diss maximas. Im not that kind of person because i almost bought the car and still like it. My friend has a 97 5 speed max and i love racing him. He is not into fixing up his car like i am but he loves his car. Anything i learn about his car on here i pass over to him and hopefully get him to mod his up!!

Shing is absolutely correct. Despite what it seems like, there are more than few reasonable minds here who get their facts straight before posting their "opinions".

I like my Maxima, but I understand where you come from with the Camry. My mom has an XLEV6 ('99) Camry and it is an excellent sedan, definitely up to specs compared to the Maxima.

Questions for gLoK:

I know I can probably find this info on camryman or something, but I am sure you are a fountain of info as well....

Are the CE and LE trimlines the only Camry's avail w/ 5-speed?

Does the TRD SC fit on the Camry sedan as well as the Solara? What years?

TIA!

I'm just in the mindset of we are all into this for different reasons but with pretty much the same common goal...

To make our daily drivers better than they were from the factory.

Cool! This post is flameproof!

Anyways, I totally agree with Shing and the others that posted in this thread. When I was shopping for my Max, I also looked at the Camry. Quite honestly, I would guesstimate that at least 75% (probably more) of people that consider the Max take a look at the Camry also because they have so many similarities. They each have their differences also and that is what makes each one unique. I think what gLok said is completely accurate: "...the cars are so close that i dont even wanna argue about which will win cause the variables could be in eithers favor on a different day." It's nice to see that we do have some level-headed people here.

Lordrandall: I'm pretty sure that the other trimline (XLE) is only available as an auto so you are correct. And the SC fits both the Camry and the Solara. Not sure about the years though. If you have a decent connection, check out Tiem's site and the videos of his sweet SC'ed Camry.

GLok.. you are a good guy. At least you arent here to diss maximas like others. There is a big battle though of camrys vs maximas other where though. You got my respect, nice times too man. You'll kick my maxima's butt. Doh! Not for long though

My only beef with Toyota is that they sell alot more and more well known!!!
haha

Toyota makes good cars, It's all opinion. I like any car, so long as it has something i like. I will probably only own Nissan but that's my choice and still can't deny other manufacturers quality of products.

well,

you guys are prolly gonna flame me but i wanted to voice my opinion. I think the Camry is better built and more realible then the Max. I still like my Max much more cause i think it looks better and its funner to drive. The next car i buy will prolly be a Nissan also. Being sponsered by Toyota and previously working at a Toyota dealership. I think Toyota is one of the best and most realible cars around. Besides that, their factory support, training programs, service manuals, diagrams are some of the best ive seen. There's more to a manufacter then juss the car they produce. May not matter to all of you but it matters to me.

When I was shopping for my Max 2 years ago, I drove a couple of Camrys with the 4 and the 6. They feel rock-solid on the road, more so than even the Max. The Max is just a lot more fun to drive, and for me (and most of the people around here I'd gather) that made the difference between the two. Plus, it's almost impossible to find a good used V6 Camry around here... all the old people buy the 4s.

Yeah i think in 97/98 the CE was the only V6 with a 5 speed. Its a little lighter than my car. In 99 I think they only made the LE with a v6 5 speed. Plus I could only find one v6 5 speed at all out of every toyota dealership here in south florida.

The TRD supercharger will fit all of the Solaras,97-00 Camry and the 98-00 Sienna van.

They do sell 2000 and 2001 LE-V6 5-speeds, but not much. Previous V6 5-speeds were 92-94 SE, 88-91 V6 base and DX models as well as ES250's in 90-91.
