Manual Trans. Startup In Summer. My Owners Manual Says What?
MY OWNERS MANUAL SAYS "IN THE SUMMER, WHEN RESTARTING THE ENGINE WITHIN 30 MINUTES AFTER IT HAS BEEN STOPPED, KEEP THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED WHILE STARTING". (PAGE 4-12 OF 1996 INFINITI I30 OWNERS MANUAL) SHOULD I REALLY DO THIS? THE TEMPERATURE WHERE I LIVE CAN REACH 110 DEGREES IN THE SUMMER. I HAVE NOT DONE THIS YET WHEN STARTING BUT I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH STARTUP. THIS IS THE FIRST SUMMER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN FEB. 2002. IT HAS 72,500 MILES. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
It gets that hot down here at times too, but I've never had a vapour lock problem before. Just keep starting it normally and use the flat throttle start if need be as a last resort, it won't hurt anything.
My owners manual does warn against using caps lock on the .orgy though.

I was told by a service person one time, that if you depress the gas pedal all the way down, it disengages the fuel delivery (pump i guess). So you don't flood the car if it's not starting.
If the car starts fine doing a "normal" start there is no reason to do this. If it starts hard, putting the accelerator to the floor will help it, just remember to release it the second the engine starts to run normally to avoid racing it.
BTW, this applies to autos too.
