Pimpin' the Y-Pipe

The other day I was at a local speed shop. They were pushing a Y-pipe on me for the largest low buck performance gain bolt on. I know that many of you have complained about the Y-pipe + aftermarket exhaust being too loud. I was wondering if the loudness of the Y-pipe is making it out through the exhaust, or is the 'irritation' heard in the cabin through the firewall? Could the pipe be wrapped with some of that header wrap to insulate the sound some bit, or is all the sound you speak of coming from out back?

2k2 ypipe

Actually I don't know that for sure, you know how sales people are. There was a 2k or 2k1 there and it had one, and he said he could get me one. We really didn't discuss pricing or availability as I was drooling over the modded Max that was there.

From all the chatter on the org, I thought they were available. Even if they aren't available right now, the question of sound still applies.

Any ideas?

They're probably thinking of the earlier cars. There is no official Y-pipe available for the 2002. And even if there was it wouldn't make a big difference becasue it woudln't get rid of the precats.

emax: You've got a ypipe in a 2k2 don't you? If so, then, what is your opinion on the original post up top? ...sound deadening.

It's a bit louder but I am beginning to like it and if you want a Y-pipe on your 2002 you have to swap out your rear manifold with 2000 one. BTW search is your friend
