Last year I had literally dozens of chips on the front of the hood of my car (no chips on the plastic - just the metal).

Unfortunately, last year some moron chick backed into my car and I had to have body work done. So, at the same time I had the front of the hood repainted.

I have now had the car about as long with the repaint as I had with the original Nissan factory paint (about 1 year each). AND I have driven it much more often without the bra.

Do you know how many chips I have now - 1. 'Nuff said.

(Of course I am excluding the HUGE chip and dent I got in my passenger A pillar this morning when a truck sent a boulder flying into my car - )

I have more chips than a bag of Fito's! Sounds like a class action suit to me....Hey, Ford was sued in the 90's and they landed up painting hoods for 50,000 trucks. (a long with replacing ignition parts... etc) But then, I remember talking about this before.....

 

I'm going to bring this up with Nissan Canada this coming weekend when we're at their building for a mini meet

You got lucky and got it repainted at a shop instead of going to the dealer. I went to the dealer, now a year later, I have a good number of chips again .

 

I'm looking forward to getting an Acura someday... I'm sick of the paint chips on my '02 and sick of Nissan customer service.

 

same story here, i had some damage to my front end, and rear. I have a new hood and bumper and its been a while now, and I have no chips whatsoever, I forgot the brand on the paint they used , but obviously its way better than nissan paint

 

hehe i hear you on that one... heck some one hit my car a few weeks ago while i was djing at the club, i wasne ticked cause they hit me i was ticked because they hit my rear and not the front....

 

Haven't you read the threads about carbon-fiber hoods? In a head-on crash, the CF hood won't crumple, it will decapimatate.

 

Damn, I cant make it. If you can... maybe mention to those bastards to get the FUEL CUT TSB up here in Canada. Nissan Canada still does not recognize the fuel cut issue nor will they honor the Nissan North America TSB.

They need a lesson in geography.

 

You don't know what I had to go through to get it painted at the shop I wanted rather than the place the ins. co. wanted to get it painted (it might as well have been a temporary setup in the parking lot of the local supermarket).

 

repainted about 30,000 miles ago and I now have on one paint chip. Nissan paint sucks !

 

I hate the fact that we spent all this money on a car and the paint chips that easy. I put on the 3M clear bra on my car but that doesn't save everything. If it was possible, i would 3m the entire car! hahhha but seriously, its not the paint, but the clearcoat. If the manufacturer would put on a serious coat of clear (polyurathane (sp?)) then I would think there would be less chips....

Sorry buddy go over to the TL forum and they are having the same issues with the TLs/TL. It si the new water based paints that they use now!

Are you guys using a good wax/sealant. I do have one chip which is bound to happen, even with the best paint. But I have several coats of Zaino on my car and I don't have many problems. Try a durable sealant like Zaino or Klasse, but for those of you that have paint chips already then I guess it's to late. But If just have swirls and minor scratches then you can polish those out and seal/wax the paint.

 

This must be a 2000+ Nissan problem.
I have a 97 Pebble Beige Maxima
and a 99 Super Black Altima.. no paint chips.

 

No its a prob on later model 4th gens 97-99 as well, especially the Black and other darker colors. Cjips and some peoples bumpers/hoods look like they are 10 years old already.

 

Ya know guys - I have to agree here. My 99 cougar had more paint chips in the bumper and hood that it looked like white speckled paint after a good waxing. Its not just nissan - Its all of the factory paint jobs. The cougar forums were threatening a class action suit too.

Now - as for my maxima - I had the extra clear coat put on (for sun/acidrain/lovebug damage). here's hopign that will help with some of the chips too.

If they would only put a rubberized clear coat on the cars - now that might help bounce the road dirt away.
