2000+ Mustang style 5spd shifter, Can it be done?
2000+ Mustang style 5spd shifter, Can it be done?
I really love the way the stang shifters look..they are bent and look like a Cobra snake..very aggressive and I love how the shifter looks bent back when in gear. I would love to bolt on a mustang shifter rod, however, it is bent and the Minima's is straight. Here is the inner's of a mustang shifter:

And here is the actual shifter:

Keep in mind I DONT like the color, it can be changed easily though. Try to focus on the design. Does anyone else like it as much as I do? I think it looks soo much cooler then a normal straight boring rod.
What would it take to bolt this up to a Maxima?

Negitive. My friend has a 2k 5spd stang and he doesn't even come close...but he is like 5'9-5'10...how tall are you? I'm about that height so I have nothing to worry about.
[Waiting for Dave B. to reply]Cyrus,
Damn you ricers...you all talk trash to muscle cars until a z28 with flows revvs at you...there is no meaner sound baby.[/Waiting for Dave B. to reply]

And I think duals look alot better looking then single exhausts, especially on Maxima's.
What other import family sedan in 1995 made 205lb-ft of torque @ 4000RPMS? Mate it to a 5spd/3000lb. car, and you got a torquey little bish dominating the torqueless imports of the world.
Re: 2000+ Mustang style 5spd shifter, Can it be done?
That is easy. You'll need the shifter + plate from another 5spd. From there you can take measurements/notes and figure out what needs to be made. For example if you found out that the shifter plate needs to be turned 180*, then make it so. Or just remove the shifter from the base and try a test fit. Either way you got some R&D to do.

I believe the Stang shifter is shaped that way because the Stang is based on a early 1970s chassis and the placement of the shifter to the dash necessitated a bent lever arm to keep you from slamming your hand into the centersole tower. I know that my friend's 86, 87, and 90 LX, you definately need the bent lever or you'd mash your hand into the dash. My friend's prior 95 GT had the same kind of shifter, but the new 94+ Stangs had a more raked dash console.
Driving a 5.0 with heavy clutch and a STS is pretty sweet. Everything feels very mechancial, solid and you get solid "clunks" into gear. My STS in the Max feels very solid and mechnical, but the driveline lash (forward rocking of the motor) of FWD REALLY sucks compared to driving a RWD car with no lash.
