This should silence everyone who says it's bad to convert and give autotragic owners hope that it can be done safely and efficiently. I personally got mine down for $1000 including parts and labor. It was a weekend project, with myself doing a significant portion of the work. It was fun though, once in a lifetime experience too. And the joy you get from converting your car to 5spd is priceless.

Get ready to add a #8 on that list in a month or so. I'm looking for trannys right now, but have had no luck around here so far. Kinda weird, all the 3rd gens swapping seem to be in Texas.
Actually, all the 3rd gens have died off. We are the only three left.

List has been updated.
Nickstam, I donno, it would be pretty cool, but hopefully this will become a sticky sometime after we get everyone in there so people who are skeptical about it can take a look at the many successes.
i tell you what all you former auto guys done forget where you come from. done forget your mama, done forget how you bought the max!
i dont care how many gears you put in your ride you still bought an auto.

AuTo 4 LifE yO!
Have any of you guys fixed the park neutral position CEL problem? Would extending wires from the signal and ground from the PNP harness to the clutch switch work?
I should be starting the conversion sometime soon. The brake pedal is in, but I got lazy and didn't want to move my gauge wires that went through the firewall via clutch/master cylinder area, so the clutch pedal isn't in yet.

The problem only happened to me. Chaz accidentally mis-matched some wires, and it is a simple fix. As long as you wire everything correctly you will be a.o.k. my friend.
I can't wait till you convert!! You have forcefed BIGTIME so you will feel the 5spd PoWaH even more I bet
Also, don't forgot that damn hole you gotta drill by the clutch pedal for the master cylinder to be hooked up too. Get a hole saw, don't make the same mistake as us!

BTW, did you figure out what rhymes with icky??

Yup, I have a hole saw. When I made the template, 1.25" seems like a perfect fit, but 1.5" seems better. Which one did you guys use?
Picky...

lol, well that's just the thing, he forgot to buy a hole saw so we had to use a dremel and manually saw away at the metal forming a circle. Talk about tedious!! Go with the 1.25, I agree with you it seems like more of a perfect fit. But, if your in doubt, just take the master cylinder deal and try to fit it through the saw (which you probubly already did). And always remember, you can go bigger but you cant go smaller, so even if 1.25 isnt enough you wouldn't be screwed like you would be if you used the 1.5"

Dont forget me. I already have the donor car and the job should be done sometime in january, with a new act clutch and flywheel. That would make me just about one of the fastes Max's in SoCal, then I can work on my project in which should make me the fastest. See you guys next year around this time, get ready to have your asses handed to you SoCal Max's
