Engine Cooling Fan Melted Off Hub (long)
Engine Cooling Fan Melted Off Hub (long)
As you may know, there are 2 fans behind the rad. One kicks in when the engine is above a certain temp. The other goes on when the A/C is turned on. These fans are made of plastic & mounted onto a metal hub through a "forced-fit". There are no screws that keep them mounted in place.
Yesterday, I found out the engine cooling fan had fallen off the mount completely! The A/C cooling fan was off-axis & resulting in a vibration that creeps through the engine bay & back to the steering wheel. When I pllued out the double-fan assembly from the engine bay, I saw that the fans have been melted (or melting) off the metal hubs. btw, my fan motors still turn (unlike what happened to BrainV).
1. anyone else seen/heard of this happening?
2. any guesses why things had gotten so hot at the hubs??
Any insights are much appreciated.
