Richie, can you tell me which Optima battery would be best for my use? I have a sound system and a 6 neon underbody kit. Out of all the batteries, which one of the best? Whats the difference between the yellow and blue ones?

The blue ones are supposedly for Marine applications. The biggest difference I have been told (Richie please correct me if I am wrong, for I have never verified this information) is that the marine application blue top's primary strength is its ability to hold charge for extended periods without use (most people don't boat year round), while the yellow top's primary strength is deep cycling.

Thanks for the info, but what is deep cycling?

See http://www.optimabatteries.com/faq.asp - hopefully it'll answer your questions. Personally, I don't know much about the technicalities of the deep-cycle or how it works. I can only supply you with positive feedback from my experiences with the yellowtop. Many audio install shop and cars with lots of 12v accessories, will recommend the Optima. I bought it cause I was having light dimming and bass cut-offs so I took others advice and bought one.

Regular automotive application batteries are only designed to give maximum voltage for brief moments in time, i.e. car starting, and are designed to be charged shortly afterwards, a.k.a. short cycling. They require CONSTANT charging from the alternator to maintain said maximum voltage. My oe battery of about 7 months old, is already ballooning like your average politician. When I put on a bassy track, you see the voltage just dropping continually. The ballooning I am seeing is the result of the positive plate growth within the battery, as a result of forced deep cyling. I am basically taking away more current than the battery was designed to provide. This is also putting a strain on my alternator btw. The deeper the battery is cycled, the more wear is placed on the battery.

Deep cycling batteries on the other hand are designed to be discharged to less than 20-30% capacity, without damage to internal plates. So a deep cycling battery can basically deal with being drained heavily and recharged without showing any wear, or just slight wear, while a normal battery will not.

Those ready to buy, please email me to make payment arragements. If I get the money in before Thursday this week, you can pick up your battery on Saturday Aug. 24 if you are attending the Woodbine Beach Meet. Otherwise, other pickup/drop off arragements can be made. Hurry guys, others are awaiting 10 buys to finish this GD, sofar I believe we have about 5 commited purchases. If your still price shopping, rest assured that this is a great buy. Performance Improvements price on the Yellow top is almost $300 after taxes which isn't saying much cause PI is always a rip but it gives you and idea of the savings when your only paying 190 taxes in. Let me know guys.

Richie, I'm still trying to get enough money for the battery as well as trying to land a job somewhere before I can make the purchase. How long will this GD last for?

I'm picking up the first 5 or so orders this Friday for anyone who gets the money in before then. That way the people who have already paid don't have to wait long. I've ask the supplier to allow me to pick up the rest the following week since some guys need more time to get the money together. He's cool with it but I want to get him his total 10 orders as part of the agreement for the GD price incase I need any future hook-ups. So lets say before the end of month.

So what brands are good Deep Cycling batteries (i.e. i can get at Sears or Autozone, etc.) b/c i dont think my Pro-start is "deep". it SUCKS!

Yes, email me: Richie@torontomaxima.com

Yellowtops are $190 CAD Cash, Taxes included.

Anyone else still wanting them, I will do another pickup as soon as 5 buyers get the money to me.
