I was at target today, and when i came back to my car there was a black '97 max parked next to me...but it said ES on the back instead of SE. ummmm, what was it?? maybe they just got diff lettering, or did they make a ES model here or in canada even??

It's a Canadian Maxima. I think it's the equivalent to a fully loaded USA Maxima SE without leather. I wish they had those here in the US.

It's basically a stripped Maxima SE and only available in 99. It came without BOSE, leather, spoiler and sunroof.

 

ES = Essentially Simple?

 

That's weird, because a base US Maxima SE doesn't come with BOSE, leather or roof.

The ES model is like the GXE, except it comes with white faced guages, SE wheels, and foglights. It's almost like a base SE except without the spoiler, and the leather, Bose and sunroof weren't optional. Like the (Canadian) SE, it came with LSD as well.

The 99 SE-Limited trim never made it to Canada(I believe), but instead we got the ES model. Dunno why Nissan did this, because we had the 2001 AE Max availble
