You have to find a "donor" car to get all the parts out of. You basically have to look/call in junkyards and see if they have one and how much they want. You may get lucky and get it cheap, but again, they may try to rape you on the prices.

5 speeds are cool but although you did not choose your car, or maybe you did, you paid more for an auto and now your gonna pay more for a 5 speed... Would it be better if a person sold the car and then bought a 5 speed? Just wonderin.

Well in my case...

My parents bought me the car a long time ago. So, any changes I do to it are a better deal than getting a new car. It would cast me about $1200 to convert to 5spd. It would cost me a WHOLE LOT more than that to get a new car.

This is easily do-able as long as you find a car that is pretty equal in age and mileage to yours. For example I sold my auto 2K1 SE with 16K miles (just took out an ad in the paper and sold it within a couple of weeks) and bought a 2K1 GXE with spoiler and 11K miles, for the same price. The only cost was about $1300 for TTL.

It's costing me about $2k because there are no donor cars around here (I searched high and low and came up wit nuttin). And a sizeable chunk of change went towards an ACT clutch instead of oem, new drive shafts from raxles instead of rebuilt, and Pacesetter STS instead of used. I found the shift linkage and a few odds and ends at a junkyard, and I had a transmission shipped from a junkyard in Arkansas, but everything else I'm buying new.

Anybody converting for $1200 or less is getting off pretty lucky.
