Stock Quartermile

What is the stock 1/4 for an auto 96 max? I don't think I've ever seen a number for that?

when my 96' GLE was stock i ran a 15.6 there are minimal errors that can be made with racing an auto, so get your launches down real good.

Practice until you can launch without spinning at full power. Turn off everything you can (A/C, radio), remove everything in the car (spare and jack too), lower tire pressure to gain traction, and that's all I can think of right now.

Does turning off your radio really make a difference? I think when you turn on your headlights, your idle rpm rises. If your idle rpm is higher, shouldn't that be to your benefit when you are trying to run the 1/4 mile? Just a thought...

No, idle speed won't help a thing.

I really think that it is me as a driver, because I can drive the he!! out of turns but it when it comes to straight line I'm terrible. What are somethings to think about to improve times?

it comes down to a few simple items:

1. reduce your car's overall weight (1/4 tank of gas, smaller rims, etc)
2. improve your car's power (various MODz)
3. practice, practice, practice
4. see #3

if you can improve your 60' time, that will help your quarter time.

Your alternator has to work harder when you are running a lot of electrical equipment, and your car is just adjusting to the added load.

1/4 times for my stock 4th gen

On my first offical drag race I ran a 16.1 second 1/4 mile with my stock 98 SE. I have an automatic and I had my tires set to 32 PSI all around (normal pressure), had about 50~60 pounds of stuff in the car (IE spare , some tools, and my massive CD collection), the temp was in the low 70s and the humidity was normal, and I was running on a half tank of 94 octane pump gas (didnt see much difference than with 93, definitly not worth the extra 10 cents a gallon) also I had just done my 60K tune-up.

Chino how many miles are on your 96? and is your car a 5 spd? Yours should be running in the 15s easily, something is definitly up with your car.

Wow. I ran a 16.2 with Y-Pipe,HAI, and MEVI.

Without the MEVI - 16.6

I had a speakerbox (1 10 and 2 amps) in the trunk, no spare, no jack, and my 18" TSW Trophy's on.

Is that normal?

Anyway, going to the track next Saturday with the SC.....I know I'll get better times now.

Damn you guys are slow or maybe im just that good J/K. Well I ran a 16.1 for my first and best time ever and I avereged 16.3~16.4 for the night. TheSoundSoldier ran a 16.0 with his stock 97 SE 5-spd. Maybe its because I have an automatic , its pretty hard too screw the run up. FYI my worst time of the night was a 17.1, I put it into 2nd gear with the O/D off and shifted to drive after a couple of seconds. The WRX I ran against WALKED all over me he ran a 14.1, I felt like such a slow poke . Now im starting to question some of the usual Maxima mods (IE Intake, Y-pipe, etc) do they actually help to get better 1/4 miles or are they slowing you guys down?

I'll tell you its all unsprung weight. With my tire combo on the road I did 16.1 which is horrible for modded auto. But with my stock wheels I could get a much better time. The difference is 29lbs extra per rim x 8 x 4 = almost a 4000lbs car in comparison to stock 3050lbs.

How heavy are the ugly stock GXE wheels (the ones that use wheel covers) relative to good looking aluminum rims?

I have 82k on my car. Its an Auto. My car acts and feels fine, nothing to indicate that there is something wrong other than my 1/4 mile times. Where should I start? I changed my oil, fuel filter, and purchased Denso platnium spark plugs about 5k miles ago.

The 4th gen GXE and GLE 15" rims are 16.5 pounds a piece respectivly, the 4th gen SE 16" rims are 19.6 pounds each. I think switching to some 16X7 SSR Type Cs would help in the weight department (11 pounds each rim) but then again its all about the $$$ and style preference. All in all it would translate to the reduction of about 270 pounds of unsprung weight with the Type-C rims. Also as fas as stock goes the GXEs run the best in the 1/4 mile, but Deezo's run is one of the best Ive seen for a stock 4th gen .

don't worry hokie max. it was very humid that day and i hear that 75-80 is a notoriously slow track. steve who usually runs in the high 14s was running the mid 15s. we should try out cecil county or captial and see how we do there.

That is true, I forgot to mention that humidity can kill your 1/4 mile runs, I talked to a guy who said he lost 0.7~0.8 of a sec on a humid day. His car normally runs in the low 14s but he was in the high 14s/low 15s and I think he said he was running on 100 octane track fuel on that humid day, not that it helped all that much.
Also elevation has something to play with 1/4 mile times I went to N.E.D. in new hampshire which I think is about 1000 feet above sea level, that might have also helped. The closer you get to sea level the more oxygen is available giving some more HP. Even so the Maxima ECU should be able to compensate for the change in altitude with its MAF sensor array, but im not completely sure if you lose some HP at a higher level. Logic dictates that you would due to the reduced o2 amount, anyone else who has had experience with this care to comment on this ?
