how did you first meet the maxima?

My first brush with a maxima was in Maui. We rented a car to drive around the island and there's this small strip of road that goes up and around the mountain called the "Hana highway".
Man, I liked the way the maxima was carving up those turns. The acceleration was okay(2k/2k1 auto max), but I was totally floored by how well it was going around those turns.

How did other people have their first brush with a maxima?

I was in a 3rd gen of a high school buddy. It was a black on black leather SE. It was just cool, for high school. And then we crashed it one day But I still liked them.

My wife's best friend's husband drives one. When we went to visit them the girls did their girl things and we took off in his Maxima on the back roads - it's a 96 GXE 5speed.
At that point I was thinking about Acura TL-S or Lexus IS300.
Then I decided for about 20k less I could get a Maxima and then afford to mod it.

My grandmother had either a 1st Gen. or a 2nd Gen. when I was little, but I fell in love with my neighbor's '97 SE when he bought it. Before that, a Maxima was just another car to me.

I got hooked with the 2nd gen Maxima. A family friend had it and each time he came over, I would drool over the car. It was black on black too.

Re: how did you first meet the maxima?

my dad had a deep deep blue 95, my brother had a silver 90, I have a beige 96. My cousin had a white 96 5 speed, my uncle had a beige 98, now a silver I30, another uncle had a maroon 93, now a sterling mist 98, another cousin had a maroon (i think) I30 and my boss has his silver 91 for his wife. My dad now has a 96 Q45, my cousin has a new altima, another cousin has a g20. what can I say, nissan knows their ****... mine is the first to be moded, tho. my brother now has a gs300 and he likes the handling on my car better than his (strut bar + sway bar, sfc soon). go figure.

the first car i can remember riding in was my dads 91 silver max. he got rid of that around 94, which is when my uncle got his brand new 1995 Superblack GXE that, 8 years later, became mine

Growing up in NYC in the 80's

You couldn't drive around any city block without seeing a Max, even those older RWD that spoke when the doors where left open. "Your door is open, your door is open" I can still hear it now Back in those days every knew the power of the Max, while other cars where 4cyl the Max has always been 6cyl. The 2nd gens is what really stands out in my memory, that's when the VG was born and it's superb low end torque. It was fun pulling away from those 4cyl Toyota's, Honda's, VW's (Jetta back in those days) and even some of the higher end cars, remember the MB 190's (the baby Benz at the time) My current 93 I got in 96 soon after the 4th gens came out, the price the a used 4th gen was too much for me and I definately didn't want the 4cyl Toyota or Honda. Sorry but this thread brought back good memory's from my younger days in the city.

Yeah, Maximas seem to be extremely cheap for any given year, even new. It was so cheap that I went new instead of used. In early 98 I had planned on buying a used Maxima, checking dealers for used 5-spds, and I was like WTF why would I want to pay 19 for a 2 year-old when 22+ change gets me a fully-loaded 0 miles SE? I didn't realize that even at that 22k price on a 29.3k list I'd get whacked like a SOB on depreciation. So I fight back by keeping the car, kinda not acknowledging the poor resale! Resale wha? Can I get a wha?

yep thats my first memory of the max " your door is ajar "
in the hey day of knight rider what was better than a car that talked to you.

where i grew up all the black folks bought 2nd gens and put ragtops on them. maximas where classy and had all the neat digital stuff.

ever since then i have had a thing for maximas.

I was looking for a used car for under $10k. I thought I could only afford a 4cyl 626, But I went to one more dealer and found a 95 GXE 5spd with 17in Chrome Concept Neeper rims for $10,600. I was very impressed by the accelation. We got him down to $9000 and that's where the love affair with the max started.

how did we met?

it was about christmas time, and just a few days prior i blew up the engine on my stanza going 85 on the highway, so i was in need of a ride. looked in the papers, internet, and saw something that looked like a good deal. went to look at it in the eve, it looked good (in the dark who/or what desn't?) then had the owner drive to meet me at my mechanic's shop (45 miles away). got it checked out, and in the daylight the max looked like a gem with a clean bill of health . haggled a bit over the price, the owner was stubborn, so he drove home. over the weekend, we spoke a couple more times, and then i came over, and made the deal, and took max home.

I needed a car and i saw my max sitting at the dealership. I didn't look at it the 1st time i saw it, i just drove by and i was like tomorrow i'm gonna check that car out. I then came to the org here cause i knew nothing about maximas and saw people running 14s, and coming from driving a sohc saturn i was extremely happy. I was just praying all night that the car was a stick, cause i swear i'm never gonna get another automatic anything. So when i went up to it the 1st thing i did before even checking out the body was looking in and seeing if it was a stick, it was and i asked for the keys immediately. One test drive was all it took and the rest is history

My cousin loaned me his 92 GXE for a week. I liked it so much, I bought a 92 SE 6 months later.

A guy at work had one with a nice sound system in it. (97 SE 5-spd)

I had a Camaro RS who's engine blew a few times in 6 years.

I was looking for a new car, called my buddy and said "what kinds of problems have you had with your car?

he said "Once i took a corner so hard I spilled the battery."

I test drove the next day, and loved it. Waited 2 months to find a 5-spd, gave up, bought an Auto.

My first interest came when I saw an advertisement for the "new Maxima" video, I was too young so I had my mom order me the video back in 1994 i believe, I pulled it out the other day and its still good

my aunt and uncle have a max (and have had it since new in the late 80's) i thought it was cool cuz you could type in the code and unlock the door. i rode in it recently, and it wasnt as good as i thought, but when they bought another one, i wasnt really that surprised.

nissan in the family:
aunt/uncle: 89ish maxima (still have), 99 maxima (cousin totaled)
grandma/grandpa: 89 senta-stripped (traded on a 99 altima gxe), a 90 std cab p/u--stripped (sold, but wish i would have bought it), and the 99 altima gxe.

i wanted a 240sx for a while, but decided id rather haul ***, and my friends asses too and the maxima was big enough, but not too big. sporty, but still would make a good sleeper. I 'uz hooked.

When I was a kid my dad owned a 3rd Maxima and he absolutely loved that car and till this day even though he drives a Mercedes now, he talks about how much fun it was drive!

I am keeping telling him, he should get a Maxima now but he says he wants to feel good and really have a status car at the age he is at, he needs to show off to his friends who are all super successful too. I told him he should take a look at the Infiniti G35 then! So let's see, he might get that next year.

How did other people have their first brush with a maxima? [/B][/QUOTE]

I first liked the 3rd Gen looks. Than I began to read more about it in car & driver, the more I read the more I liked. I always wanted the room & convenience of a sadan and the power of a coupe. Nissan did just that. But, I didn't get to drive one untill the 4th gens came out . I went to rent a car and they gave me a beige Maxima. That's when I knew I had to have one.
