I heard back from PLACE RACING on my home made intake idea.

Just FYI if anyone is interested. My idea was to use my custom/homemade filter charger My Intake and add the upper portion of a CAI...only because I didn't want to cut a hole in my car. Just trying to be creative, I'm not sure it's worth the $67 to me, I guess I'd just go the whole way and get the CAI setup. Maybe if enough of us have the POP chargers or custom setups a group deal could work out.

Well for one, it wouldn't do anything for performance. and two, if you really want that, why not just get a piece of steel xxx" wide and have someone weld two little pipes to it. It might cost you $40 if you really spend alot on materials and welding.

How do you all have no problems with the PR CAI? The first time I put my intake on, I ripped out all the black plastic piping that brought air in from other sources. For some reason, after about 6 months of being like that, my car wouldnt even start. Brought it to the dealership and they said it was a lack of O2 in the engine??? They put all they ugly heavy piping back in along with the old paper filter and told me to stay away from Mods! How do your systems run fine? Oh well, now I took out the paper filter and the top part of the intake box. Then, I put the new K&N in the intake box.

So PR actually told you that you could buy the upper piece for 67... i disagree on it not making any horsepower... that whole section from the intake manifold to the mass air sensor is very restrictive... with the whole place racing intake you actually lose low end horsepower and torque.. i think that this setup will yield a better touqeu and horsepower rating throughout the curve rather then just at the top of the rpm band. Also I garraunty a healthy intake noise increase.

Bernie Lomax: I was gonna do the same thing. Just buy the piece for the upper half of the CAI and use my old Stillen kit at the end. It would definitly be worth it if your not doing the full CAI. It free's up alot of air by removing that air muffler. I got a price for $120, so if you have a price for $67 i would definitly do it. Plus it would look sick too.

AGnismo: I like the site alot and how you used the paint program to lower the max. Looks hott, keep it up!!
i think your car had a ghost living in it for a while cause that is a first. Did you install the intake, cause there is no way to mess up the install. You have to remmember, whenever you add a mod like that to your car you should always reset your ECU to allow for the car to adjust and run properly. Sounds to me like you didnt do that.

No way...I love my baby and for all mods that I do, I disconnect that battery. The strange thing is that it happened around 6 months after the initial install.

I am glad I finally heard someone else state how the CAI didn't work well in their car. My car never died, but it ran like absolute crud. Acceleration was turtle slow, and I lost about 100 miles in cruising range. The Stillen intake worked fine before and after installing the CAI. Can't figure out why my car didn't like the CAI. I guess some Gremlins were at work . . .

What the!?

- I was under the impression that the PR CAI was the best intake you could buy. What's with all the problems? Maybe it's just not showing a noticeable gain without a Y-pipe. The Cattman site has a disclaimer on their dyno-test for the Y-pipe that states that it works best specifically with a PR CAI.
- Also, what do you mean by resetting the ECU? Is that the battery disconnect thing? What does it do specifically?
- Thanks for any and all help! ;-)
