Porsche Brake Calipers?

Can you put a set or porsche brake calipers on a 4th gen? I saw a cefiro pic with some porsche calipers on there. Would I need to get porsche rotors also? Would it just bolt on or be to expensive to deal with?
Something like this

I could not imagine where the bolt patter for the Porsche calipers could be found. I would suggest trying to locate 1, junkyard maybe, and work with that.

Also the calipers do not get bolted to the rotors, so I do not think you would have to have them. But I am sure the caliper is larger and I am sure the rotor is larger so it would look good... if it fit.

Sounds like a cool project. just 1 question. why would you want porsche calipers on your max? They say porsche on them.. not trying to flame just curious

They could be mounted with custom brackets. Then you would just need some bigger rotors for them to grab.

The big problem would be finding out if your master cylinder pushes enough fluid to operate them properly without screwing your brake bias...

My friend and I replaced the fronts on his 944 Turbo. They cost over $500 each, I don't think it's a good thing to do on a Maxima. The car doesn't handle and the steering is not good, why mess with brakes. Why not just put Brembos on even though they weigh more than those of a Porsche. You can hold a Porsche brake caliper with your pinkie, it's that light.

I was the originator of this project awhile back.. I have a set of Porsche 944 4-piston Brembo Calipers: (they are powdercoated red now)

Get ready to invest a good amount of money on machining a new bracket and getting it all rewelded and then having to get a bigger master cylinder from the Q45 and then getting at least 12.2" rotors that are 1.25" wide or a little more.. I don't remember it was big though.

The other issue was on my 18 x 7.5" rims I would have need another inch of clearance in the wheel, so figure some thing X 8.0 or 8.5" depth..

cost cost cost.. plus idiots will ask why you have porsche calipers.

How hard was it to 'adapt' the Q's Master Cylinder? Is the bias OK? What year Q?

Sorry for all the questions but I kinda would like to minimize the mushy pedal I have. TIA!

Porsche brakes have long been known to be of excellent quality, light in weight and over engineered for their application. So you can understand why people would want to use them. Some just want the "name" also. Whether a caliper from a 944-T would be suitable for a maxima might be debatable as the 944-t is probably lighter. You would have to take a really good look at the caliper's specs before blindly diving into a conversion.

Using a Q45 MS to get rid of the extra pedal travel might and might not work. Logically, it should help as the Q45 uses a similar version of the 300z multi-piston caliper(iron vs alumn).

Take a look at this link and decide for yourselves. I still don't know what to make of some of it though. But the MS discussion is interesting.

chung, the guy never put the master cylinder in because I went wilwood instead and decided not to spend the extra money to have the bigger cylinder.. the master cylinder was out of his wife's 99 Q, I don't know the specs or anything on it because we never ended up using it..

but I am sure it isn't too much trouble, but I don't know much of master cylinder swaps so i am not going to guess..

Don't waste your time.
1. The calipers are $$$$$
2. The pads are $$$$$
3. You can get the same performance out of a $150 Wilwood Superlite caliper, and pads are $75 a set instead of $175.
4. There are already several working kits out there using the wilwood stuff for under $1000. It would cost that much just for the Porsche calipers alone.

Jason (hope i got the name right... hehe),
Thanks for the info.. I was curious because the Q is RWD and I thought that it was only FWD where the brake 'circuits' crisscrossed instead of being front brakes/rear brakes... I know the 4th Gen MS is 15/16" and fairly large already... Thanks for the info!

Jeff,
Thanks for the useful link!

Try these on for size...

Tarox brakes. You know it's a good company when they offer upgrades for Ferraris.

If you put the 10-piston calipers on the front, you'll probably need a set of 6-piston calipers in the back just to get your brake bias straightened out.
