my max is ideling weird
my max is ideling weird
My max is ideling anywhere between normal (750) and 2200 rpms. I cleaned the TB but that didnt help. My mechanic says it could be the idel air control (I think thats what he said) sensor. Has anyone else ever had this problem, can I fix it my self at a low cost or do I need to buy a sensor?
Thanks
Thanks

Well, the TPS lists for $116.53 over here. Prices do vary from store to store though. As for installation, it's pretty easy so you should be able to do it yourself. You just have to remember to reset the engine light when you're done cause there's a good chance it'll be on when you're done with the install. Good luck with solving your problem.

No, really, you can use a device( that I can't remember the name of) to check to see the voltage going through it. A CEL code is supposed to show if the TPS goes bad. In is all in the Haynes manual. I think mine is not working correctly either. I don't think it is bad since I have no codes showing up. It proabably just needs to be adjusted.
I got a price from an org. member who works at a Nissan dealership for the TPS, $116. So I would try other checking it and adjusting it before replacement.
That device is called a multimeter or voltmeter. Goto www.maximadriver.com in the links section. Then find the VBX Max site and look under his maintance link. There you'll find how to check your TPS.
I went by NAPA to get a price on the TPS. They said it was only $55. This is for a 96 I30t 5-speed. I wonder why it's 1/2 the price of the dealerships? I do only have the one connection, not the two on my TPS.
Do you think the NAPA one will be OK to use? Or is there a reason it is so much cheaper. I don't want to save money but get a cheap part.

Dealerships love money. Especially on factory parts. The NAPA one will probably work just fine and for $55, you can't beat it. The reason for the huge price difference could be one of two things. ONE being that it is an aftermarket piece and aftermarket pieces (9 times out of 10) are usually cheaper. Or TWO being that it might be a refabricated factory piece (I dunno how they would refab a TPS but ya never know). Well, hope everything works out for ya.
Problem seems to be fixed
Well my idel and stalling problem seems to be fixed.
I changed my fuel filter which had about 30k miles on it. Adjusted my idel a little bit more. Now it's at 650. I also kinda cleaned my TPS (just kinda whiped it and blew in it to maybe get a better connection).
about 100 miles all seems fine.
I am glad I did not rush to the dealership and spend $120 on a new TPS.

Re: my max is ideling weird
Have you done a self-diagnosis in, I think mode IV? In other words, the check the red and green flashing lights on your ECC - the number and pattern of the lights will indicate a possible error code, that is discussed in the Service Manual.
Don't know if it will work for you, but it worked for me.
