EVAP Canister vent valve
EVAP Canister vent valve
I performed a diagnostic test and received a 0705 and a 0903 code. It looks like I have trouble in my EVAP system. Can anyone help me locate the faulty component. I doesn't sound complex to replace but where is it? Thanks

Anyways,
I had the same codes on both of my 4th gens when i just bought them. It is really useless and i do not suggest you waste money on replacing it.
What i did is, take it apart.. locate the valve, wash it, and spray it with some WD40 and put it back on.. the code is triggered when the valve gets stuck.. it throws up 2 codes on the ECU. No biggie... it won't make you fail emissions or make your car run bad or anything..
I suggest you get a Chiltons or a Haynes manual or even a Factory Service Manual from Nissan for our cars and check it out..
This is a common problem with 4th gens. It is only used for emissions testing of the vehicle when you first start it up, and it shouldn't affect how your car runs in any way. I had the problem for several months before I finally got sick of staring at the Check Engine Light.
The EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve (CVCV) is located under the car behind the rear driver wheel well. It is behind the "canister", which is a black rectangular box. The CVCV is attached to the canister and has one hose and one 2-wire electrical connecter attached to it. It is connected to the Canister with 2 bolts. It helps if you jack the car up, but it's not necessary to do so.
I first took the thing off and sprayed a bunch of WD40 in it. When that didn't work, I just went to my local nissan dealer and bought a replacement CVCV and O-Ring for about $70. No more CEL.
Search is your friend. Search for "EVAP Vent Control Valve" or "0903 0705" and you will get tons of threads on this subject. Here's a good one:

after scanning this past friday and having the same codes i decided to clean mine out and to purchase a new gas cap from Nissan.
After i was finished, id say the hardest part was popping the valve off the canister. Then i took some carb cleaner and sprayed the thing out until dirt stopped pouring out. Then i had to use a lil oil to help me pop it back onto the canister. Next will be a new gas cap which i will pick up tommorow. I just hope the cleaing will prevent that annoying light from comin back on

I wish I could find the post. You can weigh the canister to determine if it is filled with H2O. if it is filled, you can dump out the water. I had these same CEL's and I cleaned and lubed the valve.
