Interesting thread.

My youngest brother had a 1989 Rustang back many years ago. He came out of a garage he was using to start his business up over in Passaic, New Jersey when he was approached by two men. One asked for his keys, naturally my brother said go F__K yourself. They pulled out a gun, SHOT HIM IN THE LEG and very politely asked for his keys again. He surrendered.

This gets better..... After giving a description of the guy to the cops, they find my brothers car about a week later down in Newark, NJ. It was pretty trashed. They also track down the guy who shot him. Both my brother and his girlfriend who was with him at the time,ID the guy in a line up.

We go to trial.......

This guy brings a bunch of his buddies to court with him and they all take the stand and SWARE that they were all together at the movies the night it happened. They told the court, you have the wrong guy.

Here's how our court system works.

"BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT"

The sworn statements from his buddies is REASONABLE DOUBT. It becomes his word against my brother and his girlfriend.

The guy walked without any charges against him. My parents went nuts, but there was nothing they could do at this point.

I still have the newspaper article on the shooting, it reminds me of how poor our court system really is.

Just look at the O.J. trial.

I understand how that guy got away with murder.

Thankfully my brother is just fine, the bullet went through his calf muscle, he actually ran like a ***** after he was shot. Now we just call him "The big shot".

That is messed up, but it never should have gone to court without his prints on the gun and bollistics matching the bullet in his leg to the barrel of that gun. Plain and simple, your brother was victim not of the system, but an unprepaired prosecutor. Also, the prosecutor should have crossed his buddies testimony and attached their character ... chances are they have past records.

They never found a gun. No prints, the car was trashed. Like I said, it was his word against my brothers and that doesn't hold up in court. The whold thing was just wrong. It was a story that was followed in the local papers. My family is very well known due to my fathers business. My last name ends with a vowel It shocked our community, we almost moved because my mother freaked out. This guy had our address and all. We had a professional security system installed at our house so my mom could sleep at night. It wasn't a good year. This was back in 1990.

Man I'm sorry to hear about your brother being shot. It's messed up when you work hard everyday to enjoy things in life such as having a nice car or even modifying your car and then someone comes along and takes it. I'll tell this what goes around comes around full turn. It's going to come back and get them oneday beleive me. But I'm glad you brother is doing ok since all of this happen.

I'm sure the guy picked her because she was a girl and looked like an easy target. She learned her lesson obviously. She definitely won't trust a stranger like that again.

Fact of the matter is no matter how much you have spent or plan to spend on your car, given the fact that carjackers seem to hit anything on wheels, you are no more or less likely to be a victim...

sad but true...

This Just Goes To Show...

...how stupid criminals are.

If I am going to jack a car, it sure the hell isn't going to be a Maxima, a '94 Accord, or an '89 Rustang. Look man, if you're going to steal, steal. It's like these a-holes that rob convenience stores and get away with a whopping $200. Woo, that was worth the risk.

Sorry, I just don't understand some elements of society. If I am going to risk the same amount of jail time, no matter what car I steal, I'm going to think big.

Btw, if someone is trys to jack your car, let it go man. It's just a car.

Back in March, 4 guys in a car with mexico plates ran me off the highway and boxed me in between their car and another unrelated vehicle on the frontage road. The driver jumped out and began punching my window and trying to open my door, screaming he was going to kill me. When he couldn't break the window with his fist, he walks back to his car, and I got out, not wanting to be stuck in my car if he grabbed anything else. I had my ASP baton on me and we wound up in a flurry of heated argument of the issue. at one point he even flashed a fake badge and claimed to be a "convictions officer", which there is no such thing. He began walking around my vehicle, opening doors, and as I walked around behind him closing him, I made my way to the driver's side door to get my cellphone to call 911. He ran around the front of the car swinging wildly, and I jumped back and hit him with my ASP, extended multiple times, including about 3 blows to the head. He wound up down on the ground by the front of the car, twitching and I called 911 and had a bit of a time keeping calm. While I was talking to 911, his friends get out of the car, and I thought they were going to finish something, but one gets in the drivers seat of their car, and the other 2 grab their friend who I hit and carry him to the backseat of their car and they took off. I tried to follow, but wound up not being able to catch them. While I gave 911 a complete description of the vehicle and the driver, the police later explained that they could not look up this vehicle because of the mexico plates, and they would just have to keep a lookout and play it by ear if he wound up in the hospital later or whatnot. I've yet to hear anything else regarding this, and it leaves me wondering what ever happened to the guy..

what exactly do you mean by that first statement? Are you saying that carjackers should only try to steal $40,000+ cars?! I think they steal what's available for quick cash or joyriding. AND did you read njmax's thread. The 89' mustang would only be one year old in 1990.

Btw, I think it's in some people's nature to fight for what is theirs. I know that I wouldn't back down too easily. That's white I keep a mag-lite next to my driver's seat.

If you live in the right state, you can just carry a loaded pistol in your glovebox or center console. If you live in the wrong state, you are at the criminal's mercy. Good luck.

Dude that's a great idea. Hit the button and it cuts the electronic throttle so he could mash the gas and nothing happens. lol, I'm now on a mission to invent that. If you hit it right after the jacking, then you could chase him down on foot.

There is a device being sold (in Africa I beleive) that involves putting some plumbing around the bottom of the car. Upon being car-jacked (with the would be robber by one of the side windows) you press a button and the would be robber is engulfed in flames. Thats right, a flame thrower. If you search the web you can find this (and a video). I read it about a year ago. Some Mercedes outside the US come with smoke packs under the front seat that can be detonated by the driver as they exit the car or from a distance when the would be driver drives away.

My favorite videos are the ones where cops have set up cars to be stolen. The car is electonically controlled (w/ video inside) by the cops. As the robber drives off, the car's engine is killed by the cops and the car drifts to the side of the road and locks itself. The videos showed the robbers beating the windows and trying to get out. funny.

From the early 90-95 carjacking was huge here in NJ. It didn't matter what you drove...the kids just wanted to have fun. It didn't matter where you drove...these knuckleheads were everywhere.

I got my handle NuJerseyDrive from the movie. It was about the car jackings in NJ. I'm not a former carjacker I just always liked how it sounded.

good post....

I have the idea that auto glass should be bullet proof. Find out an inexpensive way to manufacture an install it and implement it on new vehicles. If some @$$h0le's waiving a gun and your window's up, he won't be able to access your car.

Now there is the theory of the "@$$jacker" shooting through the car door, but if you're "squeeling" out of the situation it's going to be hard for the @$$jacker to aim at the driver door. Plus, if he's up close and fires at the window, he may get a richoche (spl?).

Just a thought.

There is a company in San Antonio, TX that does custom vehicle bulletproofing, but expect the weight of your vehicle to double for a full job.

Did they give years? Cuz I've heard of a similar list but the Camry and Accord and Max were older years. Makes sense; for example if the '91 Camry was the #1 selling car in America, then a ton will be stolen because it is easy to sell the parts. But newer Camrys don't need the parts so they aren't stolen. Just a theory.

Hey playero, if you fear to get carjack, maybe it's time for you to move, no flame here, but my advise is take the 5G and move to a safe city were you can live free in peace then you'll be ok to mod your car without fearing to get shot.

Good luck.
