AP Racing BB Brakepad Replacement (info)

Stillen wants $160+ shipping for the front pads. I'm looking into buying the brakepads from Porterfield (they make pads for AP Racing application).

*edit*
Porterfield r4s cost $149+ shipping
Hawk HPS pads cost $114+ shipping (tirerack)

Just want to gauge interest as to who else may be looking into replacing their AP Racing brakepads?

I have an extra set of Brembos that I'll probably use in a year or two. As for the Wilwoods, those pads last forever. I put 9K miles on them and they are still twice as thick as the Brembos.

I was quoted $180 for the pads by Andrew @ Stillen today! Weasel!

97MaxGurl .. I'm definitely interested in replacing my Stillen AP BB pads ... let me know what you can dig up.

I've heard that the Porterfields are awesome ... see the following thread for comments on the HP's ...

I've heard that the Porterfields are awesome ... see the following thread for comments on the HP's ...
Best price I've been quoted for on the Stillen AP pad was $168 shipped (Part number # AP00FD50) from Jerry Rome Nissan Parts Dept.
Tony and I are going to give Hawk HPS a try.

If anyone is interested, Tirerack sells them for $114+ shipping
Hawk HPS Part No. for AP Racing 4 Piston Caliper is:
HB110-F.654

Malik- I've had the r4s pads before I went Big Brake, IMO they dust just about as much as the AP Racing pads. Hawk Performance claims that their HPS Compound (Not the HP+) is 25% better than OE performance-wise, prolongs rotor life, quiet and produces minimal brake dust. When I asked Porterfield customer rep about which pads dust more, what compound does Hawk use? They couldn't tell me I thought that was strange because they sell Hawk pads as well.

I don't know what 6 Piston Caliper Number is, you'll have to look that up somewhere on your caliper for Hawk to look up their pad application. Starts with 'CP'.

The question is, are you willing to give up some performance for quieter brakes, cleaner rims?

Keep in mind that these shops (I called up 3 of them) do not usually carry Hawk HPS pads for AP Racing application in stock. They would have to get it from Hawk warehouse directly. I presume turnaround time is anywhere bet. 1-2 weeks.

I'm confused .. what'd you buy from Avalon? The Hawks or AP?

I thought you were using Hawks ...

Honestly, both! I like Paul at Avalon, no problems with him, except with the JIC which are supposed to finally arrive on my desk late next week. I hope... :-(

Hawk HPS

Tony (1MAX2NV) placed the order with Tirerack for the pads because he wanted to test fit them on his car before it goes on mine. To our surprise, he got the Hawk pads within the same week he ordered them.

PS- The dusting is reduced DRAMATICALLY. Performance is obviously not as aggressive as the Stillen pads or Porterfield.. IMO: performs at a level between Porterfield and OEM.
