Defective Optima Batteries from Group Deal
Defective Optima Batteries from Group Deal
There was a group deal for Optima Batteries about a month ago, ran by klubjunkee, a.k.a. Richie. I purchased two batteries. One is working sub par to a new Optima, and the other is worthy to be thrown away. It is VERY BADLY sulphated, which could not be possible unless the battery is VERY OLD. The batteries from this group deal were manufactured in 1998, and thus were sitting somewhere for 4 years before they were sold in the group deal.
So if you were a part of this group deal, PLEASE PLEASE check the performance of your battery before it leaves you stranded.
Richie, I need a receipt or the name of the Optima rep you purchased the batteries from for both of my batteries you sold me in the group deal.

contact me on my cell sin and we will solve this. Email me richie@torontomaxima.com if you don't have it.
Sin, why didn't you contact me first before posting this? It is causing an unnecessary scare for those who have bought one and have had no problems. I'm not out there to rip anyone off and I apologize if you received a faulty battery but **** sometimes happens. I can't make up for you being stranded on account of a bad battery (which seems like the case, from reading your post) but will do my best to resolve this problem with you. I was totally unaware of your situation before ohboiya messaged me.

Opps...sorry E, didn't mean to bring you into this. Well, it's better then looking like a deadbeat trying to pawn off old batteries

Richie .. that was a joke ... don't worry about it ... I'll vouch for you if anyone has any beefs ... ciao bud!
How to read date stamp?
I just got off the phone with you Richie, not too long ago. You said you could fax me the info on how to read the date stamp on the battery. But I forgot to give you my fax number, since I was so shocked about you having problems with other Optima group deal participants. So if you wouldn't mind, please post the instructions, so I can check it tomorrow.
Let me please appologize for causing you the problems you are facing now with the people you have already sold Optima batteries too. I had no idea this was going to cause you so many problems. My friend was stranded the other day due to a highly sulphated battery (who is an engineering sciences major), so he decided to load test his battery. All indications were that the battery was heavily sulphated. As such, he decided to call Optima, to figure out why the battery would be so sulphated if it were new (sulphating of a battery usually occurs when a battery has been sitting around too long). He had the long serial number on the top of the battery, near the negative terminal, and the operator told him it could be done easier by looking at the four digit code on the side of the battery. But she could also check the manufacturing of the battery with the serial number as well. He then provided the person on the phone with the results of his load test on his Optima, and they confirmed that the battery was not only manufactured in 1998, but that the battery is displaying typical signs of heavy sulphation.
Just so we don't innundate Optima's 1-800 number like you are being innundated by those that have purchased Optimas, if you could please provide the instructions on how to decipher the date stamp on the battery, you could put this all behind you, as those that didn't receive old batteries can be relieved of worrying, and if they do have a problem, they can just tell you then, as opposed to just asking, is mine old too?
Once again, I appologize for the problems I have caused. I had no idea my post would cause you such problems. I was just worried about people being stranded as my friend was. He was a little unsure about the whole group deal at first, but my assurances that you were an honest, and great guy, which I still believe, won him over. I'm sure this whole situation will be solved.
