My modded 2K 5 spd. vs. 5 speed 1999 Prelude

On the freeway, a coworker and I were driving alongside each other at about 60 mph. We both threw it in third and punched it at the same time. To my horror, he started to pull very slightly on me, but then he shut it down at about 80 mph. In the three or four seconds we raced, he pulled about a half car at most on me.

This is the same stock Prelude that I beat by a full second at the track. And I have a ton of bolt on mods. Why the hell did he pull on me?

I can't remember if I had my AC off or not. I think it was off.

Preludes and Integra GSRs are serious highway runners. When I was still NA, my friends would kill me on the highway, one had a Prelude and the other had a GSR. I have an automatic though. I think even with a 5spd Maxima, the Prelude and GSR might still have the edge. Preludes are stronger I think. My friend with the Prelude pulled on my other friend with the GSR on the highway.

But the thing is that I killed him at the track. I would have thought the opposite- that he would win at the track and I would win at the freeway.

He is bone stock (not in Fla either...lol). No mods. I have all of the bolt ons available for my car and it was that close?

Since my UDP was installed yesterday, I'm wondering if my ECU is still adjusting?

Without boost, is my Maxima a lost cause?

If I see one more "Maxima vs. (every other car on the road)" thread I am gonna puke.

Let's save everyone's time and just make a template for this type of thread:

template <car T>
Subject: "Maxima vs. <T>"
Owner: <Your Name Here>
Content:

Man I smoked a <T> today, it rocked!

Reply by user <Random Org Member>:
Maxima is better than ANY car on the road.

Reply by new user <T>Owner:
No way man, <T>s rock and you guys suck!

Yeah, because I am bragging about how I beat him. Did you even read my post? I am asking why I can beat him at the track and why he beat me on the freeway.

Nice attempt at humor though. Wait...actually.......it wasn't.

And the flame war begins....... If you have nothing to contribute to a thread.......THEN DON'T POST ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That sucks dude...It does take a while for the ecu to reset, but I'm sure you would realize if your car wasnt running how it should. You sure he's stock?

Yeah, he works with me. He has a k&N drop in and that's it. The only advantage he has is 17" wheels versus my 18" wheels. But I will never, ever go down to 17"s again......

You were low in 3rd so that could make a difference or your VIAS is broken.

His race ended at 80mph. All our power is actually 80+ in 3rd gear, Asu: don't sweat it. Go to the top of third next time and maybe he jumped you a lil at the start so do a few runs. Track times say it all though.

Get rid of the Frankenfart intake, it is too hot in AZ for that type of intake, I got rid of my HAI, and my car runs much better on the hi-way now. Besides, I thought your car was fast, you said you could smoke me I assure you, I would not fall victim to your homie's Quaylude You goin to the track Friday with us? I just ordered some new rims for the Stang, and I'll be out there with it Friday, on the sauce

You mean you ordered new rims for MY Mustang?? Thanks, I appreciate that. I hope you got me something with a machined lip.

Are you talking about those drag rims? Or did you get a new set of street ones too?

O might have to go out there this Friday, as much as I detest spending $15 to get in. Maybe I'll see if he'll bring his Prelude too.

I gotta get my car dynoed. Maybe I'll have you make a run with my car so I can see what it really does. Heh. I can video tape it too. That'll be cool.

We must have been going 65 then because I would have definitely hit the rev limiter had I gone to 2nd in that situation.

It's probably still adjusting to that new carwash you used from the day before.

what did he have for mods? my friend has a 99 5 speed with a custom Premier intake, DC headers, AEM fuel regulator, APEXi N1 catback, 94 ECU and 18x7.5 Volk TE37s...he also gutted his car out of all the sound deadening stuff out of his car, no rear seat, no trunk liners...when we race on freeway, we're dead even...since his car is much lighter than my car, he's the fastest NA Prelude i've raced. I've raced other Preludes, but they're not that fast tho.
