Cornering Lights for your 4th Gen!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this might be a new mod for us 4th gens. If not, it's a new writeup. Here are instructions to change your parking lights into cornering lights. Enjoy.

I know 97+ doesn't have cornering lights, but 95 & 96 don't either, right?

I love my cornering lights. They really help on dark country roads.

Do you mean rewiring them so they are brighter? That isn't what I did.

Mine actually go on when the turning signal on that side goes on. True cornering lights like on 3rd gens, that light up where you are turning, and then go off when your signal goes off. As far as I know, the electronics for it were removed in 1995, so you can't just hook it up.

If there is an easier way to do this, my bad.

If you thought I was just making them brighter, or doing the alternating blinker mod, try reading what I post before flaming.

Don't be fooled by my post count, I've been at this for awhile.

um...

I have cornering lights on my 95. That's what they are there for...? I don't really understand what this rewire accomplishes (at all).

Am I being dense here, or what?

They are not referring to the blinkers. My old Maxima (1986) had white lights on each side of the headlights. Similar to the light that is on the side of the headlights now except instead of being on with the lights it would turn on when I used my blinker with a steady light. This light would light my path that I was turning into. I used them to look for things on the side of the road and to get the attention of other people as well since they light up for a couple seconds after my blinkers were off as well...

Finally, someone who knows what I mean. My writeup changes the parking light on the side of the headlight into a cornering light like he described. I am not sure if the 95's and 96's had them already though, is that the source of the confusion? I know that 97+ definitly did not.

You mean that when turning left, with the blinker on, there is a light that illuminates the path to the left? My 96 GLE has this...

Nice write up. Did you do this mod? Does it work well? My 92 had this feature and I loved it, I've rewired mine so its bright all the time but I'm sure I'm ticking off other drivers at night. I'd rather have it this way.

i'm not absolutely positive, but i'm pretty sure that, as far as the 4th gens go, the 95-97's have them, but the 98-99's don't. So this is really only a mod for 98-99's.

My 97 SE did not have them, so I did the mod. It works really well.

I just checked my Haynes manual, and the wiring diagram says that the cornering lamp system was only on the 95-96's, and they are 'parking lights' on 97+. I've updated my writeup. Thanks for pointing that out.
