I found a 99 SE-L (red) should I get it?

Hey all...

Long story short...I have a 2002 Sentra SE-R Spec V and I am (hopefully) getting a lemon law claim on it. Anyway, if Nissan buys back my Spec V I will be in the market for a car, and Sentra is not what I want to go back to. Anyway again, I seen a red 1999 SE-L Maxima on the lot today but it did not have any miles on it. I wanted to look close but a shark came rolling along. My question, and I have been reading an researching also...Is this a good year for the Maxima? It seems to be a base model, with no options...and I do not know the mileage but hopefully will get more info on it tomorrow.

Should I expect a price tag of around 15,000 also?

The SE-L is the limited model so it's a good bet to buy it. As for the price, $15K is a bit high so if i were you, i would try to haggle down to about $14k. I bought my max last september for $14,500 (loaded SE with 32K miles and 5-speed!). the guys at the dealer were desperate to move some cars so i got a good deal.

i think i would take the specV over the 99 SEL, but that's jus me..and is it a good year? all years of the max are good
u would also want a 5spd, i drive auto and its OK...if it's base model with decent mileage it'll be around 14-15k

btw, this isn't the red SEL in the raybrandt used lot is it?

The red Max you looked at in Conway has a clean title according to CarFax.

Vin #: JN1CA21D1XT219990
67,712 miles as of 8/14/02
1 owner (leased in May of '99)
Sold at auction (most likely Dallas) on 8/13/02.

Carfax doesn't list the options on the car or the model.

Just FYI.

I think you can do much better on the price. The old style 4th gen Maxs have plummeted in value. So very low teens with those miles seems right. Also the red is kind of FUGLY. Just my opinion. The 99s were the last year of this type of Max and all 99s were Limited Edition. Very good year for the Max.

As others have said, ****er with the price to get it down. And get it; there weren't many Crimson Blaze Maxi's made in 99. And no, not all 99s were SE-L's - I was torn between my 'Blaze Red or a gold SE.

Got the red, glad I did. Don't see many of the reds on the road.

As for the Sentra, my son has a 2001 GXE. Fun, squirty little car, but trust me - it's no Maxi.

I dunno man. You have 2002 Sentra Spec V that no one has untapped the potential power it could have. If i were u keep the Spec V. they dont have alot of parts for it yet but their making them. But yea SpecV is a very nice ride. If you looking for a car for a family and have good performance ok then take the max. It depends on your needs and wants. Either way you go u get quality nissan engineering.

dude! i would jump on that one. the SE-L models seem pretty hard to come by from what i could tell when shopping around. especially in RED. awesome. i've never driven a spec-V, but i've read a lot about them. the maxima is a much better choice IMHO. it's a car in a totally different (higher) class. no comparison.

as for price...i have no idea. good luck.

I would go back to another Spec V (2003 model) but it's still a Sentra, and will have the cheap quality of an econo car.
So far I have/had 12 problem's with this car and do not want to go back to a Sentra. Anyone go to b15sentra.net...you can find many of my posts there with the same name.

If it's a SE or SE-L, KBB says retail is 16,180 & private party is 12,670.

I's offer them $14k. They probably only paid 12 or 13 at the auction.

RED Only came in the SE-L not SE it was part of nissans big advertising campaign when the 4th gens were going out in a blaze of glory. I bought my se-l with black leather 4 months ago from an individual for 14k. The 16 that the dealer is asking is not a good deal you can definately talk them down.

and Yes, Jeff is definately representing us well!

Just FYI I picked up my '99 SE Sterling Mist 5 speed w/46,000 miles, sunroof, bose, homelink, crappy Nissan alarm, & power drivers seat for $15,000 about 6 months ago, They were asking 16,000, I couldn't talk them down in price much (my 1st offer was $13,500) but did get them to throw in a 2 year extended warranty. (I think they said the value was about $900 for the warranty). If they won't come down in price see if they'll do the same thing.

That is what the emblem says, with the SE stretched out...(bad visual)
