Uhm well that's kind apples and oranges.

But if you're leaning toward the Mustang type, go with an F-Body instead.

Re: maxima or mustang?

which model Mustang.....

one of the early 5.0s, the newer and slow V6s, a GT or a '03 Cobra?? there are too many models for this to be a general question. as far as modifications and performance goes...IMO the current gen GT 5spd all the way(Cobra if you can afford it), as for reliability Maxima HANDS down!!!! IMO if you want a good car to make really fast get the Stang(ANYTHING BUT A V6!!!!! ), but for speed, style, comfort and reliability go with the Max!

but yeah like James said apples and oranges!

Go with the 98+ trans am W06. I think the styling of the fbodys is better than the stangs. Unless you can get your hands on a SVT or 03 cobra. It's all about what you want though. Do you want to go fast in a straight line and do a burn out show out stop lights? Or do you want an all around car that goes pretty fast, looks good, and has good reliability?

i have been a huge mustang fan ever since i was a child. they are by far my favorite car of all time. i will have one one day. but here's the deal, right now they are just not practical for someone my age. as a 19 year old college student i need a car that is reliable, gets decent gas mileage, looks good, has decent power, and is low on insurance. the maxima fills these needs for me right now. my only regret is that my car is not a 5sp, other than that i think i have the perfect car for me right now. now, when i am a bit older, i will have a mustang, but that will have to wait. for now, the maxima is the perfect car. hopefully, one day i can have a maxima as a daily driver and a mustang as a toy. then i'd have the best of both worlds!!

oh, and by the way, my girlfriend works at a local ford delarship. a couple weeks ago i went up there to visit her on her break and she gave me the keys to a 03 mustang gt 5sp and let me take it for a spin. that car was so sweet!!! pretty quick, handled well, and just so much fun to drive! now, if they could just get an 03 cobra 6sp pn the lot....

Slipper Socks or Potato Salad - which is better?

Funny comparison... I own a '93 SE and previously I had a '95 Mustang GT and a '97 Trans Am WS.6. All three are very different cars, so you need to decide what you want. The Maxima is GREAT and would easily outrun the '95 GT (as well as a friend's '98 GT - both 5spds). The Trans Am is crazy and was the best performer of the three no question about that. 280rwhp/315rwtq stock. 6spd. Black. Yeah. Fun car.

Figure out what you want and get it. I would take an '03 6spd Cobra (in that awesome blue) over just about any car out there today. 390hp, awesome 6spd, rear wheel drive, independent rear suspension... SWEEEEEET wheels. Yeah. Sounds good. All for about the price of a 350z Track.

Get the 350Z instead. much better reliability than a FORD.

How do you know that? Both are brand new cars. Both will be under warranty for a few years anyway. Never had a problem with my '95 GT - it is over 120k miles now with it's current owner, and it has cost less in repairs than my Maxima, and has never once left me or the current owner stranded in over 60k miles of use (unlike my Maxima).

Since they are both the same price (about) I would (if I were in that market) buy the Cobra now, enjoy the ~400hp, leave lotsa rubber stripes around, and sell it before it's outta warranty. Then, I would get a Z and enjoy the ride.... Dealers are STILL being asses here. "Gotta lay down at least $5k because they are so rare..." No, it's just because there are people that are stupid enough to lay down at least $5k for a car they could easily have at MSRP by either not being a moron, or waiting a few months.

Ah Well. What can ya do.

neither, i'd buy a used nissan 240sx and drop a JDM SR20DET motor with some basic upgrades. you'll be faster or as quick and you'll handle better than a domestic V8 for less than half their price new.

I don't get your reply... Ford is bringing the GT40 back, and it is supposed to cost in the range of $100,000 and have around 500 hp.

i totally feel you on the mustang or maxima question. before i bought my maxima i was in love with a 89 stang with a 5.7L engine that f'n hauled *****. i've drivin some fast cars but i was really impressed with the american muscle. in a perfect world i'd have a 3rd gen max with all the internals ripped out and 2k stuff being its powerplant, and a 69 stang in perfect condition in my driveway .

*Gag*

Ford? Ew.

Sorry but I'm a GM guy at heart. And yes, I'm aware of some of the crap to come out of GM plants.

Regardless of the build quality of GM, you cant beat an LS1. Period. It's hands down one of the best engines out there. Ever.

And guys dont bash Domestics. They can (I'm not saying all domestics) be just as reliable as any import. I know lots of guys with domestics with way more mileage than lots of us and with way less problems/repairs.

The ones that last are owned by someone with a "feather foot"

I would choose a maxima over a mustang any day. Too many headaches involoved in owning a ford (unless it's an old, old ford) And for the ones saying your maxima is dieing all of the time, your car is 10+ years old, what do you expect. And, most people that have problems with their max has problems with the tranny... oh wait, what a coincidence. The max trannies are Borg Warner, the makers of many domestic trannies...
