ok ok ok....
as much as i like the looks of IS300s, i don't think the car is as fast as the company claims...

yesterday in Irvine, around 10:00 pm...on Culver..

a brand-spanking new(still dealer plate) yellow IS300 rolled up next to me and start revving up...

i'm thinking...uh....hmmmm....this guy wants to race? in Irvine? 'oh, what the hell'...

we both launched at the same place and by the time i shifted to my 3rd gear, i was about full car length and a half ahead of him(going about 65mph....). when i realized i was in irvine, i slowed down my car and let the IS pass me...(didn't wanted to get another ticket for racing..)

in about 10 seconds after passing me, the IS driver finally realized that he was in IRVINE...not Pomona Race track...

well, i beat him so that's all that matters~!!!!

What kind of road were you racing on, because I hear that the car is fast, when driven by a "driver". Plus, is has an awesome suspension system, better than the max b/c they used a double wishbone suspension, not like our cheap creators who used the beam for the rear. I don't doubt your kill, but was just wondering what kind of conditions you were racing on?

SEE, in a city called Irvine, every road is paved and straight...(almost every road is straight..)

now, i know that IS300 has a better suspension set up than 'stock' Maximas...
but we can always change that with a set of springs, sway bars and strut tower bars...(better wheels and tire combo certainly does help...which i have..)

so, having said that.....any other Qs?

hehe

-peace....and uh....don't drink and drive...=) You'll end up messsing ride and a hang over the next morning!!!

Absolutely, if cost and passenger comfort are not considerations, the BMW is the way to go. The curb appeal, handling and rear wheel drive are the key factors in my opinion.

I don't know if winter driving is a determinate but speaking as a Canadian in the snow belt, I would take RWD over FWD any day. Steering with the right foot and the back end out is the only way to go.

I have about two weeks on my '01 Majestic Blue 20th anniversary edition (5 sp of course) and despite the fact that we have had snow every day since I picked it up, I smile every time I step out of the car. For me, the ride, power and handling are more than adequate and the conveniences and size of the car make it just about perfect. That said, for pure driving, it's hard to beat the Bimmer.

One of the advantages of living in southern cali is that unless you're up in the moutains, you never worry about snow.
i heard that in snow, front wheel drives are a better choice...but again, i could be wrong..

under the dry road conditions, i think rear wheel drives handles better than the front wheel drives...but as far as the straight-a-way acclerations, the front wheel wins!!!

Its an auto with e shifting or (tetronic)sp! Plus it takes a driver to handle the car! If you put a amateur in a F1 race car I don't think he'll do too well amongst the other F1 drivers, right!

AUTO IS just auto no matter who drives it...sure it'll be better to put in micheal schumahuer(is this right?) or mika hakkinan behind the wheel....but still....
all i'm saying is that IS300 with automatic trannies can't beat Maximas with 5 speed!~!!

that's all

BIG differance between a Sequential electronic shifting Manual tranny in F1 cars....vs.....an AUTOMATIC tranny with a gear selector found in most cars sold (except 360 Modena). It is still an auto. and in most cases in straingt line acceleration having the driver shift is usually worst than letting the computer do it. You could have Michael schumacher vs. someone's grandma and you would still end up with the SAME results in straight line acceleration.

The only time when driving skills matter is when a Real Manual is used............. or if you are taking corners, then and only then is the gear selected important to how fast you go around the track.

RELAX GUYS I OWN A SE 5SP!

All I was saying is that the car's supposed to be fast, auto or not....I heard it was fast and thats all. I'm not saying its faster than my car which is basically stock. The 0-60 times alone indicate how fast(slow) the car is ~8sec. So, just relax guys..I'm on your side.

Whats up Irvine 78???? I met you at the Socal meet a few weeks ago. I was the one with the other 2000 Max with mods. Sterling mist, SE, 17 inch chromes, suspension mods........Before i bought my Max, I was leaning towards getting an IS 300. I had a Lexus ES 300 prior to the MAX. I could have gotten a sweet price from Longo Lexus on a new IS 300. Ill tell you what kept me away from the IS. IT ONLY COMES WITH AN AUTO TRANSMISSION!!!! After reading all of the articles on the IS and the hope of a 5 or 6 spd trans,Lexus screws up by only offering an auto............BOOOOO,HISSSSS. Thats why i got the 2000 max SE with 5spd!!!!! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!

You are welcome for the sandwiches! I saw your post about a Maxima meeting this weekend. I hate to say but I still have Xmas shopping to do. This happens to me every year. I wait until the last minute. I hope you get a good turnout. Yes, i did buy some 730 Potenzas for my car. A big difference from the Re 92s. The92s are good tires, but the 730s are alot stickier. I sold my 17 inch SE Maxima rims with the 92s. Thats how I was able to buy the new 730s. If I do any future mods to the Max, it may be an exhaust system. If that happens it wont be til next year.......................Take care and HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I raced an IS300 about a month ago and spanked him so bad it wasn't even funny. Can you say at least 2 car lengths on him by the time I hit 80 mph. The only crappy thing is that most of the time I see one a lady is driving and they never seem to want to race.

but we can always change that with a set of springs, sway bars and strut tower bars...(better wheels and tire combo certainly does help...which i have..)<<<<

No matter what we do we're still stuck with that beam axle and weird transverse link system. Maybe someday somebody will come up with a fix for that - like a Watts link kit. Of course if most of the racing is just drag racing it won't matter.

Supercharger is running GREAT!!!

The supercharger is running great, especially in this cold weather that we are having in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Since Stillen sent me the new tensioner pulley (with heavy duty bearings in it) I haven't had one problem. (Knock on wood) I'm getting ready to add a custom fabricated Y-pipe in January. That should really help with my performance!!! Oh yeah, I'm also getting some Nitto 555 extremes put on next week. Take care.

That should really help with my performance!!! Oh yeah, I'm also getting some Nitto 555 extremes put on next week. Take care.
hey, DMan_2KMax...

great looking supercharger you got there....
but from your website, i kinda noticed that your car has no suspension mods except for the FSTB.
are you still running the stock set up?
if you are, man~~~ get some Eibachs for your car.
it makes a big difference and you'll be able to lay down your supercharged power on the road better...
and uh, after that....go race a 5.0
hehehe

I raced one on the hiway last month shortly after the breakin period on my new Max. I got a slight jump at 50 when i shot the gap in traffic. He was right behind me and I pulled away steadily up to 110. I had to slow down then because we caught up to the traffic in front of us. Once we were in traffic, he did some nice maneuvering to get in front of me. Those cars as agile and handle great, but I was still getting used to my new ride. i had a corolla before, so the maxima is a lot bigger. The guy gave me the thumbs up as he got off at the next exit.

Reluctant about adding springs??

I'm a little hesitant to add springs for fear that it will make the ride too rough. Remember my wife drives it about half the time and I don't want to deal with complaints about a rough ride, especially since she wasn't jumping for joy when I dropped $$$$ on the $$$upercharger and tranny work. Does it make the ride a lot rougher? I know a guy who had a 2K max and he put springs and shocks on it and it drove like crap!! If the ride is not too severly compromised I might consider the Eibachs. I also have the Stillen RSB in addition to my FSTB. Later.

Re: Reluctant about adding springs??

well, that all depends on your preference.
for me, i would not have it any other way.
i have a set of eibachs in my car and i LOVE how my car handles. i'm thinking about adding a sway bar for my car around next month or so, and that'll reduce the body roll and improve my cornering...under normal driving conditions.
anyway, your WIFE drives the Super-charged max?
man....does she race alot or something? why would she need a supercharger in her maxima?
Can i be your wife? hehehe....
just joking...

H&R springs are more like stock. Not as harsh as the Eibachs from what I hear.
