What are the differences between i30 and i30T?

Search gave me about 10 irrelevant results.. don't believe this was discussed before either

My friend just bought a 97 i30.. we're just wondering if it's the Touring model or not.. and if not, what are some differences between the Touring ones and the plain ones?

anyone know?

thanks!

I think we got a bit more then a gimmick with SE-L's.

Own one and you'll understand. Wait, that was Infiniti's line...

Thats basically it. Although all the 5-speeds came with LSD, touring or not. Fst96se has a non touring 5-speed with LSD.
Heated seats?

My floor mats don't say touring!

see the "t" below.

Wait doesn't that little SE-L badge improve aerodynamics by like 7% or something? I though I read that somewhere...

oh yeah...heated seats and my front seats have the infiniti emblem on them and it says infiniti. For some reason, i think i've seen 99s with infiniti and the emblem on the rear seats also, but im not sure.

My non-touring car has LSD (Auto). Is there a way to tell if your car is touring or not through the VIN or something besides the the litte t ?

I don't think the auto has LSD. You have traction control I believe.
Like posted earlier, spoiler, the BBS touring wheels are dead give aways for a "t" model.
Did you put on your rims? Did you have the the same stock ones as Fst96se(above). If you did then you do not have a "t".

No Factory spoiler and no "t" equals no touring model.

I looked at a '99 auto I30, that did not have the LSD... If that helps any. I wonder if perhaps some do and some don't. That seems to be the case.

Hmmmm. I see your question.
If you had a factory spoiler then it was a "T". Why did you take it off? Was the whole I30 rear badge missing, or just no "T"? Did you shave your badge off?
I am going to look into the VIN containing the info. It should, just have to figure out how to decode it.

The spoiler was chipped, I plan on replacing it later. All I remember seeing on the car was the I30 lettering, no t but that couldn't been taken off for some reason. I prefer the car partly shaved It looks like I have the t package. If I remember tonight, I'll check the FSM to look for ways to determine a touring model.

If the spoiler was indeed factory then you do have a "T". It seems to me like you probably do. I also ended up shaving my emblem. Looks a little cleaner in the back. If you find a fool proof way, besides the exterior options, for Touring determination let me know.

How to tell a Touring Model

Look at the metal plate on the firewall on the passenger side in the engine bay. Right beneath your VIN, you will see a the model indentification number. I have the "regular" luxury model but I have leather, sunroof and lsd. The LSD is optional on certain combinations. Mine is CLHULHAA32EVAP. The 6th letter designates H for luxory, W for Touring. Hope this helps.

Don't have a scanner yet..best I could do (click for bigger picture)

I have a TOURING MODEL!!

Just kidding, but the vehicle code and tranny code for my 5spd i30 are EXACTLY the same as the touring model....it goes like this...

Mine:
Vehicle: CLHULWFA32EUA
Tranny: RS5F50V

Touring:
Vehicle: CLHULWFA32EUA
Tranny: RS5F50V

Funny, huh? Looks like a leather kit and a spoiler are in my near future...already have the "t" badge....now what to do with the wheels...

you have no leather and no spoiler but you have the t badge? So what does the t package give you? LSD? Is the suspension different?

My floor mats never said Touring on them and I think that the symbol imprint on the seats was only on the limited versions. The touring models were supposed to be the only ones that had an available 5 spd tranny, although there are a few 96's out there that have them. The touring model had standard leather in 96 and the others had available leather. Any production year had a factory spoiler option so you can have a non "T" and have an OEM spoiler. Heated seats/mirrors were standard on touring models as well. Maybe someone can verify this, but I read I think on edmunds that the Touring models came with polyurethane bushings. I haven't been able to verify this because I have always forgotten to check.

I also have the heated seats but I don't know about the heated mirrors. Maybe the only one who knows this info is infiniti themselves

My mats don't say it either. I always thought the 5-speed was standard on all models. Although it was not very common not to have the option of the auto trans. You may be right about the spoiler but I have never seen a non touring model with a spoiler.
Polyurethane bushings? I hope your right about that.
The more I think about it, a non-touring model could have any option a touring has, except maybe the suspension.

- Man, I had no idea that you could get an I30's with a stick. I feel like a total dumbass.
- Perhaps the factory Viscous LSD could be legally transplanted to a Max that runs in SCCA's STS class...?
- Is this the same Viscous unit that came in the Canadian Max's?

I think it is the same unit as the canadian max...pretty sure actually. The best way to get an i30 VLSD is to buy my i30!
