Please Help - Broken Spark Plug in Engine!

Bbaker025 and I are over at my place changing his spark plugs, in addition to a couple of other things. On the first plug, I was turning the wrench and felt something pop. I thought maybe I had finally loosened it. I pulled the attachment out. To my dismay, the top part of the plug had broken off, leaving the bottom threaded part in there still! Has anyone had this happen? Can anyone give advice as to how to get this out? Thanks.

Damn Gepetto, you have got some lousy luck with wrenches! Did the hex part of the spark plug come off with the top? If it did, you'd better tow it to a competent mechanic. If removal isn't done with a surgen's precision, your looking at possibly buying a new head.

I did say "possibly". I was just trying to put the fear of God into him. I figured that if he tried to do it himself, it would eventually get to that. After all, he did round off one of the nuts holding up the steering column; not a high-skill-level task.

I just had the car towed to the dealer today. The tow truck driver said he had a problem like this in his car. They reverse drilled into the top of the spark plug, then drilled it out. Hopefully it wont be too expensive. Ive never had a bill under 150 from the dealer I told them to install my fuel filter while they were at it tho.

Brian,

One last time, but this time publicly, I'm really sorry. I know we decided that it wasn't anyones fault, but I still feel bad Hope it works out OK.

OK it's not like I MEANT to. After a little bit of looking, I found that my socket was stripped (cuase it started doing the same thign to the other one too). So I do have bad luck, but I do have some sense.

Its all good. I'm only 17, so I feel pretty honored to be part of the club, and look up to all these mechanical geniuses that are here (especially after reading Yankee's post on his turbo project and hanging out with Harold a bunch). It's all good. It still feels good to remember the look my dad gave me when I walked into the house with my guage cluster in hand
