does it snow that much in NJ, not much right...so u probably get away wit out 'em but they always help.. i would suggest that u take rims off in the winter because u expose your rims to more in the winter(salt, maybe an accidental grind with a curb, whatever).

I jus had my starter changed cuz it finally jus died. First it jus hesitated, like u stated, before it just wouldn't start...so plan on changing it, cuz its an easy DIY job, save on labor, or at least get it checked out before it gets worse...

Question #1:

If you have summer Z-rated tires, then yes. Otherwise, I would say no. I would say no more then 550 for the tires. Depends on what you want.

Question #2:

Well, my rims are already messed up, so I would say no. My friend has new looking rims and he doesn't take them off in the winter. I think my rims just have a sucky clearcoat...oh wait, they don't have clearcoat anymore.

Question #3:

You know your starter is going to die when the starter cylinoid (sp?) doesn't disengage after the car starts. Mine has been doing this for a few months now, and it still works. It will also hesitate a few times before it will turn over.

Anymore questions?

Rims are not really the problem in winter. It's the tires you have to worry about.

It depends what kind of tires you have right now. Stock all season or any all season, then you will be ok. I still wouldn't want to drive in snow. If you want maximum grip in snow, ofcourse snow tires are the way to go. You can get a set of snow tires with 15" steel wheels for around $500-$600 new. I have "summer tires" 18" Nitto NT-555. They down right scary in snow and the cold temp. will ruin the rubber compound. The rubber compound are like hard plastic under 32 degrees. So, I have some Pirelli 210A for the winter. It's better to spend $500 on some winter tires and not worry about loosing control of your car.

Read up some info here about snow tires.
