EXTREME newbie questions

I am going to buy a 94 Maxima 5 speed SE from a guy this weekend. It is completely stock which I don't like. Well I am going to do the first basic cosmetic things (tinted windows and such). But I have one problem, what is the difference between a "Y-Pipe" and a muffler, is it a muffler? And what are some decent mods I can make to my car for under like 400 bucks. Which brands are the best because I really don't know a whole lot about mod brands and quality and performance. Thanks guys!!

the y-pipe is attached to the exhaust manifolds and the catalytic converter. it channels the exhaust gases from the engine to the back of the car.

the muffler comes after the b-pipe in the exhaust and muffles what would otherwise be very loud exhaust.

i suggest that if you didn't know the difference, you should buy a book on cars or do a search on the web (www.howstuffworks.com).

the rest of your questions can be answered by clicking the search button in the top right of the page and entering keywords, etc.

Hey, I've been dying to use that picture so lighten up, man. If you want to make your car sound like bees in a can, why don't you get some bees and put them in a can!

a cold air intake is about the bst bang for buck you can get. don't spend all the money on mods that are cosmetic only. a car with show and no go will just get you laughed at
