How bad did I mess up my MAX?

To make a long story short and refrain from fumbling for excuses, my MAX ran without oil and I think it ran like that for about ten miles(no my oil light wasn't on). It doesn't seem to run any worse now but when it's running, it smells like when you take a dull drill bit to a chunk of steel (I do have oil in it now). It's going to die a pretty quick death isn't it? If not, will it ever stop smelling like that?

metal against metal is never good...
Did it not have ANY oil, or was it just really low?

My girl ran her subaru loyal wagon with no oil for a few days. Dipstick was clean whan I checked it. Filled it up and ran for 2 years after that. Then broke a ring, but that was extenuating circumstance (stuck in snow, revving the **** out of it, girl stuff ya know). Just change the filter and fill 'er up. The oil that was in there probably got cooked pretty bad. Change it a gain in a few weeks. Just say f'it and drive it. VG's are tough man.
