stillen y pipe
stillen y pipe
I decided on the stillen y pipe for my 98 se auto. But I have a couple of questions. 1)What gains will I see. I have 98 auto with a stillen intake. 10-15 hp??? I do not plan on getting a ctaback due to noise and minimal gains. 2)For the people who installed it themselves, any advice and how long did it take. Will basic hand tools and sockets do the job. I did my h&r agx last month and was running to sears 3-4 times for tools. 3) Since winter is coming, should I wait. I live in pa where snow and salt can be an issue. I read on a search that Sprintmax said that the stillen y pipe is made from the same material as the oem muffler. If that is true then I don't really see a problem. Please respond to help a fellow max owner out
P.s. I searched thanks mike

just one question, why stillen?
if e in pa, you might have to get someone to cut off the nuts off the cat. i had someone do mine for like $20 becuase i couldnt get them off myself. youll definitely need a socket wrench with metric hex sockets and an extender for it. believe me the extender is your savior. it took me about 2+ hrs cuz getting around the stock y to loosen the bolts on the manifold is a pita. after you get the stock y off, the install is easy and is only 15 minutes. good luck.

I love Stillen stuff, as you can see my whole exhaust system is Stillen except the RT cat. If you have the dough for their stuff, get it and forget those people that say they cost too much. They are the best quality and you would not have problems with them in the long run, especially the flex section of the Y.
As for installation, I didn't do it myself, my friend's shop did it. If you are just to put your car on jack stands, you'll probably need that extender, maybe a torch and good metric sockets. The stock Y is supposed to be a pain to take off, it's really cramped in there. Once you get the necessary bolts off, installation of the new Y shouldn't last more than 30 minutes.

It's stainless steel, so you have nothing to worry about. I live in Oregon which rains 8 months out of the year, I have no problem at all. As for gains, you'll feel it right away throughout your powerband, but like slimer said it's very noticeable in your top end.
