You said your car wouldn't start. Please be more specific. Did it not crank (no Rrr-Rrr-Rrr)? Did it crank, but slower than usual? Did it crank at normal speed but fail to fire (no Vroom!). The diagnostic paths and potential remedies are different.
Help us to help you by providing a clear report of symptoms.
Well, it could be a lot of things. A bad starter with broken "teeth" could turn forever and never catch the engine to start it. I think is highly unlikely that flooding a fuel injected engine will cause the car not to start. By the way, if you press the gas pedal to the floor while starting, that disables the fuel pump (just like a carbureted car). It might also be that you are not getting spark. Did your mechanic physically check to see if the spark plugs are firing? It could be that your ignition coils are defective. Yet another problem might be that you are not getting fuel. Did you check your fuel filter? It might be clogged.
Like Daniel said, you didn't describe the problem with enough technical detail for us to properly diagnose your problem. Check with your mechanic to see what they've done to your car so far (as far as diagnosis) and report back here. We're all glad to help you out here, but being the gearheads that we are, we need more details.
