Hi:

I just find this web site and like it very much.

Question, how do I replace rear brake pads, 1997 SE? I replaced the front with no problem. When I try to do the same to the rear, I had problem. The book saids disconnect the cable but I had hard time of understand how to disconnect the cable, help.

Take the parking brake cable mount off the suspension arm. One 10mm bolt, it sits right in front of you once you get the wheel off. The reason you do that is to give you enough slack in the cable to get the caliper off it's mounts. (it's a tight fit)

Don't forget you need to twist the piston on the rears to get it back in. You can use a heavy needle nose plier to grab the notches and turn. Don't force the piston in by pushing it! It just screws back in.

Yep that drove me nuts. I never dida car with the twisting part of the rears. I was sitting there with my dad trying to figure out why the heck we could not tget the stupid thing in when almost at the same time , we were looking at the caliper and said "Hey, ever notice those little notches in there?Strange huh?" Then about five minutes later we realized they were guides. Doh.

twisting piston on rear brake

I just replaced my rear brakes yesterday and I recommend getting the "disc brake caliper tool" from AutoZone. They will loan it to you and you just have to put a deposit on the tool. They don't care if you bring it back or not. If you bring it back, they give your deposit back. If you keep it, they keep the deposit.

You can use the Needle Nose pliers, but after using the AutoZONE tool, I would recommend it. There is less chance of cutting or damaging the piston seal when using the tool from AutoZone.
