I recently bought a 94 GXE that now needs a brake job (all around I believe but haven't checked it out yet). Just wanted to know if anyone has recommendations for good pads and rotors (120,000+ miles on original disks). I drive in Northern NJ/Manhattan area so I could use some good equipment here. Whatever is on it now produces too much dust, wheels are always getting black up front.

 

You just missed a group deal on good stuff for cheap.. maybe you can still get in it, I dunno..
But look in the group deals forum for the post by Avalon Racing. They're selling brembo rotors and Axxis Pads (someof the best stuff out there) for cheaper than I've seen it just about anywhere else.

 

Probably Auto Zone brakes is what you've got. I changed mine every 6months or sooner. Then the rear every 8months. It became a pain, even if they were free (lifetime warrenty). I finally, after realizing my rotors were original and had been turned and felt like they were warped, ordered slotted rotors all the way around and bought Nissan Brakes. They're expensive, but it's been 6months already and they're not squeeking and I checked them and they look new still! I've never experienced as smooth of braking in this car as I do now. I called every brake producer in all the magazines and no one makes performance brakes all the way around, that I contacted, made 10 calls. I even tried Green Stuff and they only come, like most everyone else I called, only for the front.

 

you can get brembo slotted/drilled rotors for the front and rear, and Axxis pads all the way around..

Of course, that's if you have discs on the back like me, Kaleb, and all the SE Maxes.

if you have a GXE with drums, you're pretty much screwed unless you convert to discs.

The only recommendation there is new OEM parts on the rear drums.. I tried several brands on the back and all of them sucked. burned them up within 1000 miles. I put around 1000 miles on my new OEM stuff before I converted to discs on the back, and they were still going great. no noise, nothing.


But yes, good rear brakes ARE available out there for SE Maxes. check the post in the group deals forum by avalon racing.

 

Missed out on the group buy but the prices on the web site for the drilled/slotted rotors and pads are still pretty cheap. Luckily I don't have to deal with drums as I have disk all around. I'll be ordering soon. Thanks for the tips.
