Why would rear brakes wear out before front?

Hello, first post... Looks like a lot of good stuff here.. I just had to change the rear pads on my 99 SE 5-speed, but the front still have some life left to them. Has anyone else had this same experience? I do use the parking brake all the time (not while driving of course), and the cables were not sticking or anything. The car has about 51K miles....

Nissan changed the valve proportioning on the 4th gen models to have more rear brake bias to "appear" like it had more braking power than the 3rd generation Maximas. I believe the rear rotors on the 4th gens are a little bigger as well.

Also, due to parts cost cutting and the insistence on having stock 15" wheels, Nissan couldn't physically do much else to the front brakes, so they carried over from the 3rd generation model.

My rears wore out before the fronts. It's just the way they designed the brakes. My Prelude used to go through 1-1/2 sets of rears to each set of fronts.

When I looked at my rears and noticed they were wearing faster than the fronts and a bit unevenly, I took my 99 in to the dealership just before the 3/36k expired and they fixed everything for free.

I checked the brakes when I rotated the tires last weekend and everything appears normal now.

Thanks, I figured it was 'normal', just wanted to see if others had the same experience..... I did have a bit of fun 'screwing' in the piston when I changed the pads, but other than that, the change was easy... The rotors also looked fine, so I didn't mess with them...
