Are You Happy with YOUR Maxima??

Stole this idea from a post in the 5th gen forum..

Just wanted to see what the general public was thinking out there about their cars.

Are you happy with what you drive, what you've done to the car, etc??

my dad doesn't think it's worth it spending so much money on a car, but i think so. It builds image and character. It also keeps me out of trouble (off the roads, on the roads is a different story). I love my max and could ask for anything more(unless it's a 2k3 6spd w/navi)

well....after seeing yours and many others maximas...i wish mine was better. i wish it had more options stock and i could afford more mods. however i'm still happy with mine and lucky to have it! people compliment me all the time which makes me feel good. i'm proud of it but of course with everything, it could always be better.

so yes, i am very happy with my maxima. best car i've ever owned yet so far and i love it more and more every day.

how about you jason?

I am very happy with my maxima! I've owned it 2 years now and it still feels like I just picked it up from the dealership. It's an excitement to drive it...or even to just look at it!

I would agree with that, I like where I am with my car and enjoy planning the "next level" and the most basic of things I can do to make me happy with my enthusiasm for the hobby.

I'm in the position to move up to a better car but a few factors are definitely holding me back. The fact that mine has every single factory option. Also, the fact that I completed and updated the list of features with current factory features such as HID, Factory 17" Rims, CD Changer, updated ****. The intake also really seemed to open it up and make it sound just perfect in my eyes. Also, the fact that everyone that sees it says the paint is so mint that they cant believe its a Nissan Factory paint job (Which it is, just looks like that due to the previous insane owner). I also love the Black on Black, as well as the 5 Speed factor. However I still think I might be upgrading to another car around spring time and thats why I only do mods that I can always turn around and sell without losing money. So I will never lower it, put on a body kit, aftermarket system, some kind of brand new 18" rims or any other stuff that will force me to lose money.

I'm not happy with this Max............

I love my Max. I don't have heavy hitter mods but I still consider my car to be fast. It's smooth on the highway gets perfect gas mileage. I can't say enough about why I bought this car.

Yes,even more than the last 2

For me, this car is the perfect daily driver. It's quick (will pass at will most cars on the road), Smooth riding (and seats 4 very comfortably), the minor amount of mods I have done have rounded it out and I have had little to no problems. Only time I wish I had a 6 speed is on the track. I do wish Nissan had put a better stereo in it though.

I've had a '90 and a '96 before with the same experience, but there something special about the 2K2 (I think the horseys).

I'm with you on this one. When I decided to get a new car it will be in addition to my max. I have put so much money into the car, it would be really stupid for me to sell it. Yes - I am very happy with my car.

The Maxima was kind of an experimental thing with me. Coming from a 91 Integra LS 5-spd, I wanted more low-end. And I thought it'd be cool to see if I liked sport/luxury rather than raw...sportiness (ok, so the LS wasn't the sportiest car around, but short gearing, quick revs, tight handling, and low cabin/stock ride height)

That said, I don't think the Maxima satisfies my taste for a good sport/luxury combo stock. But I'm going off something that has 97k with almost all original equipment. I intended this car to be a temporary solution, so I'm replacing things as necessary. But the stock suspension really isn't that satisfying on the 4th gen. And the clutch/tranny take away from the smooth motif of the powertrain. May just be old eq on my ride, but I see a lot of people with similar complaints with lower miles than me. The interior rattles and squeaks haven't been promising either.

The suspension dislikes, I expected. The clutch/tranny and interior, not really. I think in the future, if I wanted sport/luxury combo, I'd go elsewhere (probably more-expensive elsewhere).

no, i am really not happy with the car. I am happy with what the car has accomplished, and may accomplish depending on how things go with the photographers at import xpression..

but i really want to get myself a supra and possibly keep the max if i can pull that off.. but not sure right now.. we'll see..

i like surprises.

I'm quite happy with mine. The only thing I wish for is a little more punch to it. I plan on boost in the spring and that will solve that problem.

I actcually went to a dealership (my brother works there) with every intention to buy a new 2003 6-speed. I drove it and realized just how much more I liked my car. Yeah, the power isn't quite the same (although its close enough), but the 2k3 just wasn't as comfortable. The interior felt too cramped and a whole list of other things (most importantly that the 4th gens look so much better!).

At that very moment I decided that I wasn't getting rid of this car for quite a while.

Like deezo said, comfortable, quick enough, good gas mileage, and best of all, they're a piece of cake to work on.

NoMore Mods . . . Somewhat Long Winded!

No, I'm not happy . . . how can such a great car have so many little things wrong with it? My SE is great looking and it fits me just fine. The concept is right and the size is just right. I came out of a 12 second '98 Camaro SS, which was a ***** to get in and out of and very, very rough riding. Guess my age is showing? I got tired of it, but it was quick (never beaten on the street, at the drags-yes!) and handled like a slot car.

The SE when I tested it seemed to fit the bill, as a frind of mine had a 2k1, which I liked and thought it was pretty quick. So, when the extra h.p. came out on the 2k2, I was sold.
After 11 months of ownership:
-the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts (automatic) still are too slow (dealer says it's "OK"
-hesitation during initial throttle input (dealer says "its my K&N panel filter"
-even with the suspension mods, the handling sucks (oversteer, plowing into corners - I know I got tired of the stiff ride. So what? I'm a hypocrite!!!
-the RE 92s suck (dealer balanced them to make the car handle better)
-the Bose "never" gets turned on because it truly sucks
-the rear deck rattles like crazy (dealer says "it doesn't rattle"
-AM radio is nothing but static (dealer says Bose is "OK")
-is not that much quicker than a 2k1 (h.p. all there - forum issue?)
-loud clunk in front end (link TSB?)
-excessive exterior wind noise (yes, TSB done twice)
-the starter grinds at start (dealer says "it doesn't")
-sometimes it takes 6 or 7 turns of the ignition key to get it fired
-the hood vibrates

I bought this as a suitable sub for the SS - to mod and get it into the high 13s and to handle quicker. But with so many things irritating me right from the start, I'm sure I will take the loss and trade it in.

The Max wouldn't be the best choice for owning a sports/luxo car. I've stripped a GLE's interior and it just seems theres not a lot there. For economy/sport, then I'd say its the best choice.

not to go off topic but personally I think Nissan should stop making the GLE option and leave Infiniti to hold the luxo badging.

i have a different take i think hey should get rid of the gxe and do this

gxe = gone
se = gxe model
gle = se model with wing

as far as loving/being happy with my max its like #2 most important thing in my life

I am very happy with mine and want to keep it for a while. I mean it has a style that will not look dated too soon like earlier 90's cars, it has nice performance for a 4 door so i have some nice space in it. I live having it in a 5 speed and the interior is way less ugly then some others I have owned or been in. And one day I think if I am looking to get something newer because it is quicker etc, I might just look at boost. I mean if instead of paying 25K for a newer car for the power, I might just spend for 4K for a turbo kit and have even more power anbyhow.
