turbocharging the maxima vs rebuilding the 300zx
turbocharging the maxima vs rebuilding the 300zx
I have 2 cars, a 1998 nissan maxima se 5spd and a 1990 300zx TT 5spd. The maxima has 125,000 miles and the Z had 103,000 before the engine blew last month (threw a rod or two and cracked the block). My dilemma is this, should i rebuild the 300zx to stock specs or should I turbocharge the maxima? Remember that the Z will have only zero miles and maxima will have 125k and may not last long. On the other hand, the maxima is more unique and more practical. Please justify your answers and dont worry about cost, that is not a factor.
ps. by saying that cost isnt a factor that doesnt mean i can add bigger turbos to the z during the rebuild or rebuild AND turbo the maxima, my only two choices are turboing the max or rebuilding the z.
Thanks~

A turbocharged maxima is appealing but I would rebuild the Z. I think the VQ could take boost at that mileage but I would have concerns about the transmission, brakes, ect, wearing out prematurely. Also if you don't work on your cars yourself, most dealerships wouldn't touch a turbocharged maxima with a 10' pole.

not that expensive, some come with stock snails...but you better off with newer turbos on the rebuild.
Also, re-do the detonation sensor..that gets you in trouble too.
